Hello and good Saturday evening to each of you. I hope your week went well. May your weekend be restful and blessed!

I received our church newsletter in the mail this morning and was pleasantly surprised about the context of it. My point in saying that would be I have been struggling with some things lately and they have been consuming my thoughts. Most people who know me and have known me for quite some time know and understand my little quirks. I have always been pretty straightforward. I am reminded more times than not about watching what I say, how I say and to whom it is said. Doing so has caused me to be a little more agitated than I wish to be. One should never have to completely change or be the sole party in trying to correct a situation.

This thought process leads me to the note our pastor has in the April newsletter. He couldn't have selected a better time for that note. Unity is not only important in church, sports, and things of that nature. Unity also needs to be practiced on the job, in the home, in the day-to-day happenings with people in general. When a united front is not presented, it allows for chaos and confusion that can lead to hurt feelings.

When we act of our own accord, without putting God in control, we are allowing Satan to have a stronger hold on us. He doesn't need any more power than he already has.

Our Minister of Students also had a thought-provoking note in April's newsletter. His topic centered on refueling/recharging the "batteries". We all need to be encouraged and lifted up. No matter where, when or how. A quiet time away from the world spent in communion with our Lord and Savior is a very vital part of our walk with Christ. When we go astray it most always ends in discord and disappointment.

My prayer for each of you is that we all strive harder to work together and present a united front whether it's in the midst of adversity or not.

All of this leads me to our upcoming revival. It will be held the week of April 20-23. Services will begin Sunday night, April 20th at 6pm and the following evenings service will begin at 7pm. The guest speaker will be the pastor of Northside Baptist Church in West Columbia. Please be in prayer for our guest speaker as well lifting up our revival services. May God speak to us and we will be refueled/recharged; eager to do His work!

Tomorrow evening will bring a special evening service. Troy Widener will be performing at 6pm in the sanctuary. I haven't had the opportunity hear this young man, but it is my understanding that those who have have been blessed! God works in so many ways and through so many people. It is encouraging to see them using their talents for God's glory!

We will observe the Lord's Supper on Sunday, April 6th. Everyone is invited and encouraged to be in attendance to observe this special time of worship and reflection.

The April birthday celebration will take place on Wed., April 9th. If you or someone you know is having a birthday in April, invite them to join in the food and fellowship!

Our quarterly church conference will be held on Sunday, April 13th. One of the items of business will be electing our Nominating Committee and our Trustees!

The Women on Mission will meet on Wed., April 16th. All the ladies of our church are invited and encouraged to attend.

The XYZ club will have their monthly meeting on Friday, April 18th in the fellowship hall. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm in the fellowship hall. Those in attendance will be playing the fun game of BINGO! It is requested that those who are taking part in the fellowship, food and fun bring along a wrapped BINGO orize.

Vacation Bible School will be held June 8th-12th. If you are interested in or area willing to assist/teach a class, please refer to your newsletter or contact the church office to know who to contact.

The youth and children have a busy month ahead! The Children's Ministry consists of the following:

Kid's open gym on Saturday, April 5th from 10am-12pm. They also have a putt-putt trip scheduled for Sat., April 12th from 11am-3pm.

The youth activities are as follows:

Open gym on Friday, April 4th from 6-9pm.
SNAC will be held on Sunday, April 20th following the evening service.
Youth bowling trip on Friday, April 18th.
Lasagna fundraiser on Monday, April 21st.

Youth and Children's Committee meetings are as follows:

Children's Committee Meeting: Sat., April 5th during open gym.
Youth Committee Meeting: Sunday, April 6th beginning at 3:30pm.

Other items of interest are the Associational Meeting being held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Thursday, April 17th. The evening meal will be served at 6pm and the meeting begins at 6:45pm.

Men's breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, April 20th. All the men of our church are invited and encouraged to attend.

He is Risen!

Hello and good Saturday evening to each of you. Tomorrow we will celebrate our Savior's resurrection. It still amazes me that He would love us so much to die on a cross to save us from our sins. And I am so thankful that He did!

As Christians, Easter means a time of re-birth or renewal. Taking off the old and putting on the new. Very much like accepting Christ and being baptized.

Our services will begin at 7am, Sunrise service. The community is invited to attend the service followed by a time of breakfast, celebration and fellowship. Sunrise service will take place at North FBC this year.

Sunday School and morning worship will stay with their normal times (9:45am for Sunday School & 11am for worship). There will be no evening services.

Egg-Hunting Fun!

Good Friday evening to each of you. I hope had a good and blessed week. We have several items on the agenda for this weekend.

Tonight the XYZ Committee had their monthly meeting in the fellowship hall. The guest speaker was Deloris Zeigler. Her focus this evening was in regards to her experiences on her mission trip to Kenya. There are so many people who need to hear the word of God. The people He chooses to spread His word to those in need of hearing it are a blessing to those they meet. Praise God for them and the work they do!

There will be an Easter egg hunt tomorrow afternoon (March 15th) from 4pm-7pm for children of all ages. Everyone in the community is invited to share in the fun, food and fellowship. There will be games and activities for the whole family to enjoy as well. The afternoon will end with a cook-out of hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. If there is a family you know that would enjoy the festivities, they are invited to attend as well! May God be glorified!

Tomorrow morning FBC Swansea will host a community wide yard sale. This function is intended to raise money for Clay Dixon's medical expenses. This young man has touched the hearts and lives of many people. Some who know him and others who have only read, seen, or heard about him. Rest assured that God's plan holds something special for the Dixon family and all who know them. The yard sale will begin at 8am and will end at 12 noon. All items that aren't sold will be donated to charity.

Sunday evening March 16th will find the adult choir presenting their Easter cantata. The service will begin at 6pm. The cantata is named "In Christ Alone". If it weren't for God's love, we would truly be alone. A lot of work and time is devoted to these presentations. And you won't be sorry that you attended!

Attention Youth: The Awesome Race will be held Sat., March 22nd. Please see our MOS for more information.

There will be a Youth Committee meeting Sunday, March 16th beginning at 3:30pm.

The annual sunrise service is being held at FBC North this year. Sunrise service will begin at 7pm. The folks in and around our community are invited and encouraged to attend. Our regular Sunday morning activities will take place as normal (Sunday School at 9:45am & morning worship at 11am). There will be no evening service Easter Sunday. Come and share in celebrating Christ's resurrection with fellow brothers and sisters-in-Christ.

March 16th will also bring Men's breakfast. All the men of our church are welcome to attend. Breakfast will be served at 8am in the fellowship hall.

Women on Mission will meet Wed., March 19th following the 6:00 supper. All the ladies of our church are invited.

The first day of spring is Thurs., March 20th. The pollen has already started to settle on cards, porches, etc. Allergies will soon be effected and lots of sneezing will occur. Be sure to stock up on allergy medication. Make sure you aren't taking an over the counter product that can interfere with any medication prescribed by your physician. Doing so can result in some not-so-good results.

Happenings for the week of March 10-16th

Hello! I hope everyone had a terrific Sunday. I accidentally left some things out in the posts I made last night. Please accept my humble apologies.

A reminder about the birthday celebrations for March. The monthly birthday celebration will take place this Wed., March 12th. Anyone having a birthday during the month of March is welcome to attend.

The XYZ meeting will be held this Friday, March 14th at 6:30pm in the fellowship hall. The guest speaker will be Deloris Zeigler. Ms. Zeigler will be sharing her experiences from the Kenya mission trip. A meal will be provided.

FBC Swansea will have a community-wide yard sale Sat., March 15th from 8am til 12noon to help raise funds for Clay Dixon's medical expenses. The funds already raised are a true blessing for this family, I am sure. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful little boy, and I know that those who have will never be the same! I know there is a story here that God wants us all to learn from, I hope we each take the time to listen and allow God to guide us in ways that only He can. Much luck and love to Clay and his family. God speed!

If you would like to donate items to be sold, please drop them off at the church in Swansea, March 8th from 3-6pm. All items not sold will be donated to charity. Please refer to the insert in our March newsletter for further contact information.

There will be a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt Sat., March 15th from 4-7pm on the FBC North church grounds. An afternoon of fun is in store for the whole family. An Easter egg hunt will take place for children of al ages, games and activities for the family, too! The evening will wind down with a cook-out of hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings. Everyone is invited to participate in the fun, food and fellowship!

The adult choir has been working on their Easter cantata. It is entitled "In Christ Alone". The cantata is scheduled for Sunday evening, March 16th at 6pm. Come join our church family as we celebrate through song and drama, the day God's redemption plan was fulfilled. As this Easter approaches, let us remember that Jesus Lives and that we have life in Christ! Amen!

Remember: there will be NO evening services Easter Sunday, March 23rd.

A Very Windy Day!

The wind has blowing non-stop today. The winds outside can be much like the winds in our lives. There will be days when the wind will blow as a gentle breeze, then there will be days that it will blow with such strength you will think you have stepped directly into a wind tunnel. There are times when I hear people say "God is really testing me today." To them my usual response is "God isn't allowing those things into your life to cause hardship and turmoil." He uses those times in hopes that we would draw nearer to Him. Not farther away.

It is during two seasons that most people seem to enjoy the commercial way of celebrating these events. Christmas and Easter. Now, some people say they aren't going to teach their children about Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, or any of the other "commercially acceptable" characters that line the shelves of stores. That's fine. That's your choice. One important piece of advice though, you can't protect them from life. It's bound to happen. Would you rather be the source of the correct information or have them find out in other ways not acceptable to the manner in which you would have them exposed to such things? Santa Claus is a symbol of love and giving. The bunny is a cute and furry animal who hops around and isn't intended to cause harm. It is up to us as parents, teachers, friends, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc; but most importantly as Christians to teach children the true meaning of Christmas and Easter. As long as a child has a strong foundation in the home and in church, the commercial representatives remain in place, but they take on a different tone when their true meaning/place has been told to a child old enough to understand the difference. When we embark on these notions of not telling them about Santa, the Easter bunny, etc.......they will see it on tv, in stores, advertisments in the newspaper and they will hear it from their friends at school and yes, even at church.

As the Bible puts it, "Teach a child the way they should go and they will not part from it". In other words, if they do stray for a short amount of time or even for a long amount of time, if they have the basic Biblical principles taught to them by God-fearing (which means respecting God, not fearing Him) parents and those same parents live their lives in a way that is pleasing to God, that same child will remember those principles when the time calls for it.

God Himself knew we would stray from time to time. Being the faithful and loving "parent" that He is, He always welcomes us with open arms. Never judging or saying "I told you so" just "I am glad to have you back and I love you. Welcome home, my child."

The month of March has much activity in store. God's hope would be for us to participate in the upcoming events in order to bring honor and glory to Him. If people are attending things just to be seen, you are attending for the wrong reasons. And while I haven't been faithful in my attendance over these past months, rest assured that my faith is still strong and the passion I have for various things still remains.

First off, don't forget to "spring" forward one hour tonight before going to bed. If you don't, you will be late for church in the morning!

Wed., March 12th will be the monthly birthday celebration for March. All those celebrating a birthday this month are invited to be in attendance.

The XYZ will have their monthly gathering Friday, March 14th in the fellowship hall at 6:30pm. The guest speaker will be Delores Zeigler.

Men's breakfast will be Sunday, March 16th (which is also Palm Sunday).

Wed., March 19th will be the monthly meeting of the Women on Mission organization. All ladies are invited and encourage to attend.

Thursday, March 20th will be the first official day of spring!

Friday, March 21st will be Good Friday. And on Sunday, March 23rd, we will celebrate Jesus' resurrection as it will be Easter Sunday! The annual Easter Sunrise Service will be held at North FBC this year at 7am. Family and friends in and around our community are invited to attend! Breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall at 8am. There will NOT be a change in the times of the regular morning services Easter Sunday. There will be NO evening services Easter Sunday though.

I hope none reading this blog entry found this particular entry too harsh, etc. I get very tired of other people who try to force their opinions onto other people. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. You have that right, it doesn't make your opinion the correct one by any means. The only perfect being is Jesus Christ and His word is true!

March Happenings

Hello and good Saturday evening to each of you. I hope everyone is doing well. March is shaping up to be a busy month. Lots of good things in store.

The deacons will start off with their monthly meeting tomorrow morning (3/2/08) at 8am in the conference room.

The following Sunday will kickoff Daylight Savings time. Don't forget to set your clocks up one hour before going to bed Saturday night. Noone wants to be too late or too early to any upcoming engagements.

The March birthday celebration will be held on Wed., March 12th. Anyone having a birthday this month is welcome to join in the fun and fellowship.

Men's breakfast will be held Sunday, March 16th. Breakfast will be served at 8am in the fellowship hall. If you know of a gentleman who might be interested in attending, please invite him. These gatherings develop bonds with fellow church members that will last a lifetime.

Women on Mission will meet Wed., March 19th. If you know of someone who would benefit from taking part in this wonderful group, do invite them. The meeting is held right after Wed. night supper.

Sunday, March 16th is also Palm Sunday. Each year our church observes the events that led up to Jesus' crucifixion. When we think of how our Lord and Savior sent His Son to die on a tree in order for us to be free, there is no greater love than that. Each day we should strive to become more and more like Christ. Take the time to ask God to place His will and desires on you so that they may bring glory to Him.

Easter Sunday is March 23rd. The Easter Sunrise Service will be held at North FBC this year. There will be a time of fellowship, food and celebration. Everyone in the community is invited and encourage to attend. Sunrise service begins at 7am. There will not be a change in the regular morning services March 23rd; however, there will be no evening service that day.

Don't forget to check out the student ministry site from time to time. The link for it is: www.fbcnsm.blogspot.com. Parents will be able to download and print permission slips, etc. if necessary. A lot of hard work goes into these sites and everyone is encouraged to browse them both when time allows.

Change and Reflection

Hello and good Thursday evening to each of you. I hope your week has been going well and full of blessings from God. He is so good and we are very unworthy of His love. Alas, He knew we would make mistakes. With that thought in mind, He sent His Son to die upon a cross so many years ago. As February comes to a close, March brings in a new month of promise and hope. During the month of March we will celebrate Easter. A time of renewal and reflection. A time to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior.

Speaking of reflection, I have been looking back on the moments from my past. With those reflections I am reminded of how truly blessed I am. As I visit the "days of old", I reflect on being a part of the North FBC youth group and all the fun we had. I recall those people we grew up with and developed lasting friendships that have stood the test of time. Not all people are that fortunate.

God brings people into our lives to help open our eyes to things we may not see otherwise. Whether it's for a season or a lifetime. We need to savor every moment we have on this earth. Savor them and make them count. It's very difficult to go back into the past and make changes. Change begins right now, in this very second/minute. All to often people find themselves saying "We'll have a baby when we have more money". Or "There's plenty of time to find that special someone to spend the rest of your life with". When we pass up gifts that God has sent to us in whatever form they might be in at the time, we may be passing up our only chance to right a past wrong or share God's love with another.

We should always be on our toes; because others are watching, waiting for us to stumble and fall. We need to rely on God to supply us with the strength we need to weather the storms of life. He knows what's best for today and always. We need to be trusting in His perfect will for our lives.

As I said before, I recall the times of fun and fellowship shared while part of the youth group. I remember growing up in this little town of North and making friendships that have lasted a very long while. I have made a lot of friends along the way and am thankful for each and every one of them.

I remember times of hanging out "under the trees" and just talking and laughing with those who were there. Some very good frienships began there as well as at church. We had a grand ol' time! There are days that I really miss those times; but pages must be turned so the story can be continued. I look back on my life and the things I have done along the way. As I take that look back, I am very happy to say that I have no regrets about anything that happened. Each thing contributed it's own unique mark and enriched my life so much more.

I could go on forever about all the blessings God has put in my life. From the family whom I dearly love and I know they feel the same about me, to the friendships formed over the years whether at church or otherwise.

Granted, I am not always the type of friend I should be. I have developed some bad habits in that department. Behaviors that only I can change. Including being away from church for so long.

A co-worker/friend and I were talking the other day about the power of prayer, how a collective group decides on the destination for their mission trip each year, and how others seem to be more content in the life they are leading. We both know that happiness can't come from others. It is something that must come from within and from God. We also realize that we sometimes choose to disobey the direction God would have us go. When we do that, it can come across as we are rebelling against God and His master design for our lives. That is a statement I think may be an accurate one. We need to stop looking for that thing we think will make us happy and focus on God and His perfect will for our lives. He won't steer us in the wrong direction.

I would sit here and type a list of all the people who made a positive impact on my life, but the list would be rather long and I wouldn't want to leave anyone out.

When we get testy with other people for whatever reason, we may be missing out on a chance to tell someone about God's love. As Christians, we don't want to give others the wrong idea and we definitely don't want to display unChristian-like behavior. I am forever being reminded of how sharp my tongue can be. I don't really think I need to have that explained to me over and over again. When people criticize another in that fashion, they should remember to take a long, hard look at themselves before they "judge" someone else.

Anyway, I guess I will close for now. I apologize for not writing more often than I do. I will try and do better.

Events for the Week

Hello and good Saturday evening to each of you. I wanted to take a few minutes to update you on some things that will be taking place this week. Remember to mark your calendar so you won't forget!

Tomorrow (2/10/08) will be a busy day for our Minister of Students. The youth committee will meet tomorrow afternoon from 12:15pm-2pm. Then the children's committee will meet from 3:30pm-4:45pm.

The youth will be gearing up to head to SummerSalt at White Oak Conference Center the week of June 23rd-27th. If you would like more information, please see our Minister of Students. He will be happy to assist you.

The newsletter deadline is Friday, Feb. 15th. Please have the items you would like mentioned in the March newsletter turned in by 9am.

The children will be heading to the bowling alley Sat., Feb. 17th. I am sure they will have a memorable time. It has been ages since I've bowled. Was never very good at it. In some instances I would prefer to walk to the end of the alley and knock all the pins over with my hands. It would certainly give me a better score if that was possible. :-) On the other hand, it isn't the winning that matters. It's about having a good time and enjoying the time spent with those in attendance.

Men's breakfast will be held next Sunday, Feb. 16th at 8am in the fellowship hall. All the men of our church are invited to attend. Feel free to invite a male friend who might enjoy a time of food and fellowship with a group of gentleman who love the Lord and their church.

February 22nd marks the WinterJam Concert for our youth. Remember to mark the date on your calendar. For more information, please see our Minister of Students.

The youth will also have SNAC (Sunday Nights after Church) on Sunday, Feb. 24th. Just a reminder.....they do still have the whopper. :-)

Before I forget....choir practice for the youth is held on Monday nights. Practice begins at 6pm. If you know of a young person who would like to join the youth choir, now's a good time to invite them to join you.

It is my understanding that the adult choir has started practicing for the upcoming Easter cantata. As always, I am sure everyone in attendance will receive a blessing. If you would like to be a part of this worship experience with music, choir practice is held each Wednesday night immediately following prayer meeting.

With that thought in mind......Wed. night supper begins at 6pm. Followed by prayer meeting and the other organizational meetings (GA's, Acteens, RA's). This Wed., Feb. 13th will be the churchwide birthday celebration for those having a birthday this month. Everyone is invited to join in the time of food, fun and fellowship.

Don't forget to tell your loved ones (family, friends, etc) how much they mean to you this Thursday. Yes, Valentine's Day is right around the corner. Very hard to believe. It wasn't so long ago we were celebrating Christmas. While Valentine's day is a good time to let those nearest and dearest to you know how much they mean to you........we shouldn't wait for a special occasion to tell others that we love them. Make a point to do so everyday! Your life as well as the lives of those you are a part of will be richly blessed in a whole new way. God doesn't withhold His love for us until a special day and neither should we!

The Language of Love

Hello and good Sunday evening to each of you. I hope things have been going well for you all. February is shaping up to be a busy month. Remember to post your newsletter calendar in a good place so you don't miss out on any of the activities.

The youth are busy watching the Super Bowl in the gym tonight. May the best team win!

Our youth and children have many things in store for them this month. There will be plenty to keep them busy.

The Youth Ministry activities are as follows:

Friday, Feb. 8th the youth will host the XYZ dinner at 6:30pm in the fellowship hall. The gym will be afterwards until 10pm.

The Youth Committee will meet on Sunday, Feb. 10th from 12:15-2pm.

Winter Jam is coming up on Feb. 22nd. Please be sure to see our Minister of Students for more information pertaining to this activity.

SNAC (Sunday Nights After Church) will be heading to Burger King. And yes, they do still serve the Whopper! :-)

The week of June 23rd-27th will find the youth traveling to SummerSalt 2008. Summer camps are always lots of fun and all the youth are encouraged and invited to attend. Those in attendance are sure to receive a blessing.

The Children's Ministry will be equally busy. Their activities are as follows:

Saturday, Feb. 9th: Open Gym from 10am-12pm for children in grades 1st-5th grade.

The Children's Committee will have a meeting on Sunday, Feb. 10th from 3:30-4:45pm.

Saturday, Feb. 16th will find the children on their way to the bowling alley. This should be a lot of fun!

The 2nd monthly birthday celebration will take place this Wed., Feb. 6th. Anyone having a birthday this month are invited to be in attendance. Happy birthday to each of you!

The deadline for the newsletter is Friday, Feb. 15th. Please see the church office should you have anything you would like to contribute to the newsletter.

Sunday, Feb. 17th will be Men's breakfast at 8am. The men always enjoy this time of food and fellowship. If you know of a gentleman who would like to participate, please invite them. The door is always open to those seeking a church home.

Valentine's Day is Thursday, Feb. 14th. Don't forget to say "I love you" to those nearest and dearest to you. Every day should be Valentine's Day...not just Feb. 14th. It is never too late or too early to tell someone how much they mean to you!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr.............

Good evening! The weather sure has been chilly the past few days. We had some sleet and snow last night. Then a cold, rainy day today. No matter what the weather may be like outside, we can rest easy knowing we have the warm, forgiving grace of Jesus Christ in our lives. His love for us burns like the flame from a candle. Never ceasing. We, as Christians, should be on fire for Him like He is for us.

I hope everyone has been doing well. Hopefully you have avoided the wonderful cold that has been going around lately. I have been fortunate enough to be blessed with its wonderful presence. Stuffy nose, coughing (lots of it), sinus pressure.......that "I just feel yucky" feeling. Everyone at work has had it or is coming down with it now. Get plenty of rest, drinks lots of fluids (cause your mouth gets really dry), and make sure you have soup, pudding or fruit cups on hand. There will be times when your throat just hurts and the only thing I have been able to soothe it with is pudding, fruit cups or ice cream. And I forgot sneezing.

Anyway, aside from the yucky cold, 2008 has been going fairly well thus far. Some bumps and bruises along the way...it wouldn't be life without them. I wanted to take a few minutes to remind you of some things that will be taking place over the next week or so.

The deadline for getting information to the church office for the February newsletter is tomorrow morning (18th) by 9am.

This Sunday (20th) will be Baptist Men's Day. The men usually have an all male choir and someone gives a testimony. It makes for a very memorable service. If you haven't participated in a Baptist Men's Day, make plans to be in attendance on Sunday. It's a treat you don't want to miss!

The youth will be hosting a spaghetti dinner next Sunday (27th) immediately following the morning worship hour.

Our youth will be venturing to a Youth Winter Weekend Retreat Feb. 1st-3rd. The deadline for signing up and turning in half the money was Jan. 9th.

The youth will also be heading to the Winter Jam Concert on Feb. 22nd. Lots of wonderful musicians/singers will be at this outing. If you or someone you know would like to be a part of this memorable experience, please see our Minister of Students for more information.

P.S. Remember to provide a warm shelter and lots of water for your outdoor pets. Very cold temperatures can make being outside very unpleasant for them. You may find it beneficial to feed them twice a day in order for them to maintain a good body temperature to help keep them warm. Normal body temperature for pets is 101-102 degrees. Do not use the family thermometer to check your pets temperature. Not a very healthy thing to do. An economical digital thermometer can be purchased from Family Dollar, Wal-mart or even our local drug store, R & J.

Don't keep antifreeze out where pets can have access to it. It is very harmful to them and the results aren't often good.

And make sure there aren't any stray pets hiding underneath the hood of your car, truck, etc. Or even underneath your car by the tires. Pets try to find a warm place to stay during the night and often times it is underneath the hood of a car or truck. The end result is not a very pleasant one.

And don't forget to bring those outdoor plants inside to keep them from being damaged by the cold.

Off to a Good Start!

Hello and good Saturday evening to each of you reading this blog. I am happy to say that 2008 has started off on a good note. We all have many things to be thankful for. God has blessed us richly with food, shelter, family, friends, jobs, transportation......and the list goes on and on. I wanted to take a few minutes to remind you of some things taking place over the next week.

The deacons will be meeting tomorrow morning (1/6/08) at 8am. We will be observing the Lord's supper during the morning worship hour tomorrow. A wonderful way to start a new year reflecting on all that God has done for us and to review our relationships with our family and friends and most importantly with God.

Wednesday, Jan. 9th will kick off the monthly birthday celebration. If you or someone you know is celebrating a birthday this month, make sure you are in attendance (or bring the friend or family member with you) this Wednesday. A special birthday cake will be provided to honor those and their special day. Happy birthday to each of you celebrating a birthday this month. May God continue bless you on this birthday as well those birthdays yet to come!

There will be a Youth Committee Meeting tomorrow (see our Minister of Students for more information).

The children will be venturing out next Saturday (Jan. 12th) to see the "Veggietales: Pirates Who Don't do Anything" movie.

The first quarterly conference of 2008 will take place next Sunday, Jan. 13th during the morning worship hour.

January 4th marked the first Friday that the gym was open. If you or another young person would like to take part in the fun, remember to mark the date on your calendar. The gym will be open the first Friday of each month from 6-9pm.

My hope and prayer for each of you this new year is for God to meet each of your needs as only He can. He always has our best interests at heart. He is not a Father wanting to see His children suffer. We bring that on ourselves. May this year be one of good health, Christian love and peace.

Coming to a Close

The end is drawing near. The end of one year and the beginning of another. I am sure some are reflecting on this past year and all the things that occurred. Then there are those who are contemplating this new year and all that it might bring. While we can never know what the future holds, we can be sure of one thing, God's ever abiding love for us, His children. As you contemplate your New Year's Resolutions, remember to put the most important one at the top. Making time for our Lord and Savior. Spending time with Him daily in prayer and devotion, reading His word and knowing that His promises are true. When all else fails, God prevails!

I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and enjoyed the time with the ones you love. We have so much to be thankful for. The new year brings with it many activities that you will want to be sure to remember. January starts out 2008 with a flurry of activity. Some are the normal things such as Wednesday night suppers, choir practice and such. But I did notice some new things on the agenda. Continue reading for more information:

The Women on Mission have shared some wonderful news with us. We are working to exceed our Lottie Moon Offering of $5,700.00! As of last Sunday's bulletin we have given $2,271.00. Praise the Lord! May His word continue to be spread to those who need to hear the Word of God and the promise He has in store for us! This new year will bring with it many opportunities to continue giving to help our missionaries do the jobs they have been called to do! Allow to God to speak and guide you in giving to these mission needs.

Each month our calendar is full of folks having birthdays or anniversaries. Something new will be taking place for those celebrating a birthday during the current month. There will be a church-wide birthday celebration in conjunction with the Wednesday night supper each 2nd Wednesday of the month. During this special time, folks who have a birthday in the current month will have their birthday remembered and celebrated with his/her church family. There will be a special birthday cake for dessert to commemorate the special occasion. Be sure to be in attendance the second Wednesday (Jan. 9th) during the month of January! Happy birthday to those having a birthday in the month of January!

Christmas Will Soon be Here!

My how time flies! Christmas will soon be here. I haven't done any Christmas shopping (well, I have bought 2 items). Things have just been crazy at work and I haven't had a chance to shop like I did last year. Not to mention that I have been a bit grumpy lately. Am not in the same place I was this time last year. And I don't like it. I love Christmas and what it represents; it's the hustle and bustle and such that drive me batty.

I went to the Children's Program last Sunday. If you weren't able to attend, you missed a treat! They did a wonderful job. And the theme of the program was fitting. "Bows of Holly" was designed to remind each of us how important it is to help others less fortunate than ourselves. One thing is certain, none of us are above being in the same position as those who are struggling to make ends meet, etc. this time of year. At any point in time, we can find ourselves on the receiving end of the "criticism" surrounding those who seem "beneath" us. We are NEVER better than anyone else. We all have short-comings. For anyone who thinks they are above the majority, you are in for a wake up call. I hope this Christmas finds everyone counting their many blessings and taking an extra minute to do something nice for someone else. Regardless of who he or she might be.

I wanted to update you on some activities taking place in the coming week. Remember to amrk your calendars!

The adult choir will perform their Christmas cantata Sunday, Dec. 23rd at 6pm. The program is entitle "Worship the King". The service will include Christmas hymns and a devotion. Everyone is invited and encourage to attend. Invite someone to come and here the story of our Lord and King.

There will be a talent showcase on Sunday, Dec. 30th at 6pm. If you have a talent you wish to share or if you know of someone who would be interested in participating, please let him or her know so they can be a part of the festivities. Please see our Interim Music Director if you wish to sign up for this fun time of fellowship. The last day to sign up is Sunday, Dec. 23rd.

Don't forget to make your donation to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Our church goal is $5,700.00. As of Sunday, Dec. 16th the total given so far is $1,8331.00. Please allow God to speak to you and guide you in giving to this worthy mission. These monies are needed to help missionaries out in the field spread the love and hope of Jesus Christ.

P.S. If you wish to donate items to the Cooperative Ministry for food baskets, the following items are needed for this week:

dish towels and detergent. I know there are those who would greatly appreciate receiving those items as well as other items such as canned meat, tomatoes, dried peas/beans, peanut butter/jelly, flour, sugar, meal, cookies/candy, grits, rice. Tis another way help those who need it, not just during the Christmas season, but all year long.

Christmas Rush

I tell you, things certainly get crazy this time of year. People are very crazy when it comes to driving and shopping. You rush around for weeks on end, searching for the "perfect" gift. There is no greater or perfect gift than the gift of love that flows freely from our Heavenly Father. We all need to slow a bit and remember what this time of year represents. The blessings that God has richly bestowed to each of us far outweighs the negative. I encourage everyone to take a breather and reflect on those things that we should be thankful for.

Tonight my workplace had its annual Christmas party. We were going to see the lights at the zoo. Unfortunately, there was lots of traffic on both ends of the zoo exit (stretching out onto the interstate). Absolutely no telling how long it would have taken each of us to actually be able to make it to the zoo parking lot. I know the youth were heading up there tonight. I hope they made it into the zoo with little to no problems. They will need to share their experience with the rest of us so we can have a small glimpse of it. I am sure their shopping experience was quite busy as well.

This time of year brings about many things that are happening in and around our church. Remember to mark you calendars. Or post the newsletter calendar on your refrigerator.

The youth will have their Christmas party on Wed., Dec. 12th. Invite a friend or two to join you in the fun and fellowship!

The children will have their Christmas party on Sat., Dec. 15th. I am sure they will have a lot of fun as well!

The XYZ club will have a Christmas activity on Fri., Dec. 14th.

The children, preschool and youth choirs have been working on their annual Christmas program. This year's program is entitled "Bows & Holly". I know they have put lots of work into this program and those who will be in attendance are sure to receive a blessing. If you don't make it, you have no idea what you are missing! It's a true wonder to see things through the eyes of child. This year's program will be on Sunday, Dec. 16th at 6pm. The children will also be sponsoring a food and toy drive by bringing a toy or non-perishable item to be collected at the end of the performance. Please remember to give to this worthy cause so that those less fortunate than ourselves can have a better Christmas than they would have had originally.

The adult choir has also been working on their own Christmas cantata. Lots of hard work goes into preparing for such occasions. This year's cantata is entitled "Worship the King". The cantata will be held on Sunday, Dec. 23 at 6pm. Come on out and bring a friend!

The Flower Committee is taking orders for poinsettias to be placed in honor or in memory of a loved one. The flowers will be placed in the church sanctuary on Sunday, Dec. 16th. The cost is $14.00 per flower. If you wish to order a poinsettia, please speak with one of our folks serving on the flower committee or simply contact the church office in order to receive an order form. Make checks or money orders out to FBC.

Remember to continue giving to the church bus fund. Allow God to guide you in giving to this goal of $60,000.00.

There will be a New Year's celebration on Sunday, Dec. 30th at 6pm. A music service will be followed by a covered dish supper and family game night.

The church office will be closed in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Those dates are:
Monday, Dec. 24th (Christmas Eve) & Tuesday, Dec. 25th (Christmas Day);

Good Saturday morning to each of you reading this blog on this chilly December morning. If you haven't been outside yet today, it was quite chilly when I stepped out a couple of hours ago (7am). While the temperatures outside may be ever changing, there is always one constant in our lives that will never let us down. That is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is ever present, ever faithful, loyal and loving. Full of forgiveness and promise. He IS the reason for the season. Without Him, Christmas isn't Christmas. His love for us keeps the fires in our hearts burning. Keeping the torch lit in our hearts and minds.

If you or someone you know is in need of a church home, invite them to Sunday services with you. There is no greater gift one can give than of the love and hope of Jesus.

This time of year always brings with it a certain amount of extra stress. The pressure to meet all the needs of those around us. The pressure to shop til you drop. The pressure to participate in as many activities as one possibly can. While doing all of those things can be a good thing to a degree, don't place so many demands on yourself and those around you to "stay in the race". When we focus on things like how many Christmas parties we will attend, who to buy a present for, what you will actually buy for that person, how many Christmas cards to send (and I LOVE sending cards), and so on and so on. Don't forget to take time for our Redeemer. When we rush around trying to meet all these expectations, the true meaning of Christmas can get lost in all the hustle and bustle. Instead of looking for the perfect gift on the shelf in department stores, seek the perfect gift that is Jesus Christ. He is a gift that will keep on giving.

I have to admit, I have been rather lax in my church attendance this year. No-one but me is to blame. I have read my devotion daily and I can feel the Holy Spirit nudging me at times to not say the first thing that comes to mind (especially when I am feeling stressed). And stress has certainly been a fore front. I place more demands on myself than others do. Rest assured my dear church family, I think of each of you daily and send up a silent prayer that all is well with each of you and that God will keep His loving hand upon each of you and your families. I truly appreciate the kind words of concern when I have seen several of you out and about. It's nice to know others care. I love you all more than words can say.

I finally got all my decorations put up this Thursday (11/29). I was determined I am going to be in the Christmas spirit one way or another. It is working slowly. I absolutely love Christmas. I love watching the faces of people light up when they see a friend they haven't seen in a while. I love the way a child's face beams when sitting on Santa's lap. This is also a time of reflection as I remember those who aren't with us this Christmas. My heart aches, but I know they are in a better place. I cry for those who have friends and/or family members serving in our Armed Forces, knowing they will miss this Christmas with their families. This is also a time of year that we should give back some of which has been so graciously given to us. This need can be reached by participating in the local Cooperative Ministries, giving as God would lead you in giving to missions such as Lottie Moon, or donating to Good Will causes such as American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Harvest Hope Food Bank or even holding the door for someone struggling with groceries and children all at the same time. It can also be something as simple as assisting an older member of our church family in coming to church or helping them with their own Christmas decorations. The thing that you do doesn't matter as much as the time and love that are given when you share a tiny part of yourself during this holiday season (and always).

There are many opportunities in which we can come together and worship during this holiday season. I challenge each of us to remember what it is about. It isn't about who has on the prettiest outfit or who drives the fanciest car. There will be none of that in Heaven. When we come to God's house, it is a body of believers coming together under one roof to sing their praises to the one who makes all things possible. God has richly blessed us in so many ways. And it is for His glory that each thought we think and each word we speak, reflect His love. People can see through our actions. When we aren't genuine, it doesn't go unnoticed. By man or God.

I will stop all my rambling now and move on the ministries we have at our fingertips this holiday season.

First of all, our Student Ministry now has a webpage! If you ever find yourself needing another medical/permission form or flyer for upcoming events, it can be found on the SM website. All info for upcoming events for our children and youth can be found not just here on the main webpage for our church, but also on the SM webpage. This page can be found at www.fbcnsm.blogspot.com. Speaking of activities for the youth and children: they have several fun events planned for them. The youth will be taking a trip to Riverbanks Zoo on Saturday, Dec. 8th; the children will venture out tonight, Dec. 1st. Youth and children's Christmas parties are as follows:

Youth: Wed., Dec. 12th. Children: Sat., Dec. 15th. For more details on these events, please see our Student Minister or check out the SM webpage.

Sunday evening, Dec. 2nd will be the kickoff for the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Allow God to lead you in giving to this worthy mission.

As many of you are aware, the youth, children and preschool choirs have been working very hard on their upcoming Christmas program. I always love seeing the children perform. Their spontaneity and zest for life always brings a smile to my face. Their program is entitled, "Bows & Holly". The performance will be held on Sunday, Dec. 16th at 6pm. This musical is designed to remind us to give to others as God has given to us (freely, unselfishly and with loving hearts). On the evening of the play, our children and youth will be hosting a food and toy drive to benefit the Cooperative Ministries of North. Please bring a toy or non-perishable food item to be collected at the end of the performance.

On the evening of Wed., Dec. 19th right after the fellowship meal, folks will gather to go caroling around our community. Come and join in this fun time of music and fellowship. Help bring the news of Christ to those this Christmas season who may not hear of His love by any other means!

The adult choir is also working on their Christmas cantata. It is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 23rd at 6pm. Invite someone to join you to listen to the story of Emmanuel!

There will be a New Year's Celebration Sunday, Dec. 30th at 6pm. There will be a music service along with a covered dish supper, followed by family game night. Invite a friend or family member to join in the fun and fellowship as we bring 2007 to a close.

Office closings: the church office will be closed the following days in observance of Christmas and New Year's. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24th & 25th along with Dec. 30th & 31st.

Reminder to our deacons: deacons are scheduled to meet Sunday morning, Dec. 2nd at 8am in the conference room.

Bountiful Blessings!

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to each of you. I hope you had a happy and blessed day spent with those you love. We have so much to be thankful for. A roof over our heads, food to eat, clothes to wear, a vehicle to drive, a means of heating & cooling our homes, and the list goes on and on. We have been blessed with families near and dear to our hearts; not only biological families but a family of brothers and sisters-in-Christ. I encourage everyone to take a moment and think of all the blessings we have and how fortunate we are to live in a country where we are free to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Many folks this holiday season will be without the warmth of a home, a job, or good nutritious food to eat. Families will have loved ones far away from home as he or she serves in our Armed Forces. Please remember them in your prayers (as I am sure you already do).

This year has certainly been a roller coaster of sorts for me. I was promoted to Business Manager at work back in April and it has been quite the challenge. I am thankful though that God has blessed me with the opportunity to serve in this capacity. I hope and pray each day that I will do the best job I can and will manage as effectively as I can. Unfortunately, it hasn't been easy. There have been bumps and turns along the way that have required extra patience and energy. There have been times when I wonder if I did the right thing by accepting the position. Never the less, if those who elected me person for the job, I am sure they had enough confidence in me to do so. I just hope I don't disappoint them or God. It is also especially challenging in that I do have a quick temper at times, I tend to over-analyze everything and am a perfectionist to a certain degree. It takes some "adjusting" of the thought process to accept that not everyone does every task the same. If God intended for us to all be just alike, He wouldn't have created us the way He has.

There are times when it feels as though everyone is pulling in all different directions and there isn't enough of me to go around. Unfortunately, due to the stress involved with the situation (as with any job) and "retreating" unto myself, some things have gone lacking. One thing being my attendance in church. That should be a top priority and I am sad to say that over the past months, it has not been. I still read my daily devotion and don't intend to stop doing so. I need to be back in church so it can help me keep a better frame of mind. Please pray for me that God will grant me the peace, patience and understanding to do my job and that it doesn't take a toll on my health. Please pray for me in that I will soon return to His house to worship with His children.

In other news (and as this blog isn't meant for me to unload my personal problems), we have a few activities taking place within the next week. Remember to mark the dates on your calendar so you don't miss out on anything!

The youth will be sponsoring a chili/baked potato luncheon this Sunday, Nov. 25th immediately following the morning worship service. Donations are being accepted and are greatly appreciated!

The deacons are asking for our help in meeting the church goal of $60,000.00 for a new church bus. We currently have $25,675.12 (as of Nov. 11th's bulletin). Please give as God leads you in contributing to this need.

The annual North Town Parade/Tree Lighting will be held this Sunday, Nov. 25th. The parade is scheduled to begin at 4pm. The tree lighting will begin at 5pm (with fireworks after the tree lighting). Evening worship services at our church have been cancelled so that everyone is able to attend the parade and tree lighting. Come out and enjoy this time of fun and fellowship with others in our community!

Anyone wishing to place flowers in the church in honor or in memory of, is welcome to do so. If you are interested, please write your name on the flower calendar located on the bulletin board by the counting room.

I imagine the youth will continue their annual Christmas card delivery. The time will soon arrive that cards will need to be addressed and stamped for delivery by the post office as well as for delivery at church. Help support our youth with this inexpensive way to have cards delivered to those in our church. The cost of delivering each card has been $0.25 in years gone by. I imagine it will be the same this year. When I have more concrete information pertaining to this, I will be sure to post it here!

Hello! I hope everyone has been doing well. We have several activities that will be taking place over the next few weeks.

First of all, Men's breakfast will be Sunday, Nov. 18th. Breakfast will be served at 8am in the fellowship hall. Men of all ages are invited and encouraged to attend. Invite a male relative or friend to join you this Sunday!

We also need to remember our pastor in our prayers as he is away at a conference for a couple of days. Our Minister of Students will be attending the National Youth Worker Convention from Nov. 15-17th. May they have a safe journey going to and returning from the conventions.

The Community Thanksgiving service is being held at North Pentecostal Holiness Church with our pastor as the guest speaker. I believe the service will begin at 7pm, but I am not 100% positive. I will find out and post that information once I have it.

The church office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22nd in observance of Thanksgiving. Remember to count your blessings and offer up your thanks to God for the opportunities we face to tell others about Jesus.

Crafts galore: don't forget to pull out your checkbook and head for the church this Sat., Nov. 17th. The craft bazaar is being held from 9am until. I have to work that morning, so I may not be able to see all the wonderful things that made by those that participated in this activity. I am sure everyone did a good job and those who purchase items that day will receive a craft that was made with much love. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new church bus.

Flower committee: those who would like to place flowers in the sanctuary in honor or memory of a loved one, please put your name on the calendar by the counting room.

The Annual North Christmas parade and tree lighting will be held on Sunday, Nov. 25th. I believe the parade starts at 4 and the ceremony and tree lighting will begin at 5pm. I will find out more information pertaining to this as well and will post that information here as soon as I receive it.

Time Change

Good Friday evening to each of you. I trust that your week went well. We have lots of things happening around our church over the next few weeks. So get your pen and calendar and mark the dates!

First off, don't forget to "fall back" Saturday evening before going to bed. That way you can make sure you arrive on time.

There will be a XYZ meeting Friday, Nov. 9th. The meeting will be held in the fellowship hall at 6:30pm. The whole church is invited to this function. Entertainment will be provided by "The Edisto Singers". A meal of turkey and dressing will be provided. So come on out and join in the food, fellowship and fun! Don't forget to invite a friend or two to join you!

The first annual craft bazaar will be held on Sat, Nov. 17th from 9am-until. I am sure we are all in for a treat with the crafts that have been made. Come out and show your support. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new church bus. Items such as Christmas decorations, craft, gifts, etc. will be for sale. There will a soup and cornbread lunch available that day as well.

Attention youth and children: you have many activities planned for the next few weeks. The youth will have a chili/baked potato fundraiser Sunday, Nov. 11th immediately following the morning worship service. There will be a Youth Committee meeting after the fundraiser.

Also, SNAC will take place after the evening worship service on Nov. 11th. Then on Nov. 30th the youth group will go ice skating.

If you have a child (or if you know of another child) who wants to participate in the children's activities, make sure you listen out for information pertaining to upcoming events for your child.
They don't want to miss out on the fun and fellowship!

The Community Thanksgiving Celebration will be held at North Pentecostal Holiness Church Wed., Nov. 21st. Tis a wonderful time to come together with our brothers and sisters-in-Christ to give thanks to the One who makes it all possible!

The Community Tree-Lighting and Christmas parade will take place on Sunday, Nov. 25th at the town square.

Our pastor will be attending the South Carolina Baptist Convention in Florence, SC. Let's remember him in our prayers as he travels to and from the convention.

The fall associational revival will be held Nov. 4-6. The services will be held at First Baptist Church of Orangeburg. The Director of Evangelism at the South Carolina Baptist Convention will be the guest speaker.

And two other very important things taking place this month is Homecoming and Thanksgiving. Homecoming is this Sunday, Nov. 4th. It's always a good time to catch up with those who have moved away and come back just for homecoming. There is always lots of good food and desserts to partake of. And the fellowship is wonderful as well. So if you know of anyone who would be interested in attending, make sure you get in touch with them soon. There will also be special during the service. The children, youth and adult choirs will be joining together for a special performance. It isn't every day that the three groups get to perform together. Am sure everyone will have a wonderful time (as always).

We must remember to give thanks for all that we have been blessed with. Thanksgiving is a day that provides that opportunity. Although we shouldn't wait until Thanksgiving to give our thanks to the Creator and Lord. He has so richly blessed us and deserves the credit for our blessings. Nothing would be possible without Him.

Bringing Things Up To Speed

My goodness, it has been a while since I have posted anything. I sincerely apologize for the delay. I have been meaning to post way before now. Here are a few things that will be happening in the next few weeks. Remember to mark the dates on your calendar (if you haven't already).

Men's Breakfast will take place tomorrow morning (Oct. 21st) at 8am in the fellowship hall. All men are invited and encouraged to attend.

Attention Youth: You will be having SNAC (Sunday Nights after Church) tomorrow evening in the gym. Come and bring a friend!

The children will be heading to the skating rink on Saturday, Oct. 27th. Please see our Minister of Students for more information on this fun-filled outing!

All church members (past, present and future): We will be having our annual "Fall Festival" on Wednesday, Oct. 31st. Activities include a cake walk, trunk or treat, a pumpkin carving contest and much more! There will be games and fun and snacks for everyone! Invite your family and friends to join in on the fall fellowship and fun.

There will be a Children's Committee Quarterly Meeting tomorrow (Oct. 21st) from 12:00pm-2:30pm.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the weather. Most days it is quite pleasant. I also want to encourage everyone to remember those in our church family as well as those in our community who are sick or bereaved in your prayers. The next few months will bring many memories of those who have gone on to be with the Lord to our hearts and minds. It will also be a difficult time for those families who have husbands, wives, sons and daughters serving in our Armed Forces. I know you will remember them as well.

The Lord has so graciously blessed me with a loving family, friends whose love and support have meant the world to me during the years and a church family that loves beyond all measure. I love you all more than words can say. You are in my thoughts, prayers and heart daily. I don't know where I would be without you.
