Hello and good Tuesday evening to each of you. I hope everyone is having a good week. It's hard to believe we are almost in April. Easter will soon be here. We have so much to be thankful for. The most important thing to be thankful for is that Jesus died to save us from our sins. If we believe in Him, we will see Him in heaven in all His glory! What a wonderful day that will be!

Here are few items on the agenda for the next week or so:

The adult choir Easter cantata is this Sunday, April 1st. It begins at 6pm. It is entitled "The Seven Last Words of Christ". There will be several other folks from other areas joining in the performance. It will surely be something you don't want to miss! Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall after the service. Come out and bring a friend to hear the message to be received in song!

Craft night is being held each Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm in the trailer beside Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home. All ladies are invited and encouraged to attend. Work continues on the crafts being made for the Christmas bazaar in December. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of a new bus/van.

There will be a Deacon's meeting this Sunday, April 1st at 8am.

We will be observing Communion on Palm Sunday (April 1st). This is a good time to focus on our walk with Christ and making sure we are walking the walk and talking the talk that God would have us doing.

There is an Easter party planned for the children on Saturday, April 7th from 1-4pm. There will be an Easter egg hunt, games and pizza will be served for lunch. Sounds like a fun time will be had by all!!

Spring is in the Air!

Hello and good Tuesday evening to each of you. I trust you are having a good weekend so far. It is hard to believe that spring will be here tomorrow! As I have stated before, spring is one of my favorite times of the year. I love to watch everything turn green and the flowers blooming. The sense of rebirth and renewal. Tis a wonderful time of year to remember our Lord and Savior and the sacrifice that He made to save us from our sins. We are so unworthy of His salvation and amazing grace. We take so much for granted. From His love for us to the little things in life that most would give anything to have. We need to count our blessings everyday and be thankful for the health we have and the roof over our heads. Praise God for His almighty power and never ending love!

We have lots of exciting this taking place over the next few weeks. The children have been working hard on their upcoming program. You want to be in attendance Sunday, March 25th for the presentation of "Alive, Alive". While preparing for their sunrise service, the children will learn new treasures about God's love for them through the sacrifice of His son. The program will begin at 6pm. Come out and bring a friend.

Speaking of programs............the adult choir has also been hard at work preparing for their Easter cantata. It is entitled "The Seven Last Words of Christ". This muscial was written by Theodore Dubois. Everyone is in for a real treat. Members of the choir of FBC, North UMC, members of Columbia Voice, Lake Murray Symphony and the Columbia Choral Society are combining to make this a memorable and wonderful experience. Come out and reflect on the sacrifice made by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The program will begin at 6pm on Sunday, April 1st in the church sanctuary. A nursery will be provided and a reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Women on Mission will meet Wed., March 21st at 7pm in the choir room. All ladies are invited to attend.

The deadline for the newsletter is Wed., March 21st at 9am. Remember to submit any annoucements that need to be included.

Hello and happy Thursday to each of you! Hope your week has gone well. We certainly have had some beautiful weather as of late. That is going to change this weekend. Prepare for temperatures hovering around 60 degrees during the day and 34 in the evening. Spring will soon be here............I am thankful for that.

Unfortunately, due to the pollen and the ever changing weather, I have had the joy of a wonderful cold. It's not as bad as it was, but it still lingers. Being sick always makes me happy. On a more positive note, I am thankful that it isn't any worse. There certainly are folks who have far more severe illnesses than a minor seasonal cold. Makes a person thankful for such a blessing. Things can always get worse.

Anyway, on to more important things. The youth will have a St. Patrick's Day party this Sat., March 17th. The gym will be open from 7-10pm. Remember to bring/wear your green. You don't want to be pinched! There will be games and refreshments will be served. Make plans to join in the fun and fellowship!

Craft night is now being held in the trailer beside Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home. This time of creativity and fellowship is held every Tuesday from 6-9pm. All ladies are invited to attend. Work is in progress in making crafts to be sold at the Christmas bazaar this year to raise funds for a new church bus. If you feel that you're not able to make it on the given Tuesdays..........an opportunity to work on crafts for the bazaar can be arranged.

Attention men: Men's breakfast will be this Sunday, March 18th. Invite another gentleman to join in this time of food and fellowship. Breakfast is served at 8am in the fellowship hall.

Women on Mission are scheduled to meet Wed., March 21st. This organization meets in the choir room after Wed. night supper. All ladies are encouraged to attend.

Don't forget about the upcoming performances. The children and adult choirs have been hard at work preparing for these events. You don't want to miss either one!

Daylight Savings Time

Hello and good Saturday morning to each of you. Don't forget to "spring forward" tonight before going to bed. Daylight savings time begins tomorrow. It is starting 3 weeks earlier this year. To avoid being late for any activities you might be involved in, remember to set your clocks up 1 hour before going to bed.

The XYZ had their monthly meeting Friday, March 9th. I am sure they had a fun time of food, fellowship and bingo!

There will be a Youth Committee meeting Sunday, March 11th at 4pm. The meeting will be held in the gym.

Speaking of our youth................there will be a party in the gym Sat., March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) from 7-10pm. Remember to wear/bring your green. Invite a friend to join you and make plans to enjoy the games and refreshments provided!

Work continues on the remodeling of the pastor's/ministry assistant's office. Please remember to check your mailbox (which is located in the hallway outside the counting room). The temporary offices are upstairs in the old Will Connelly class (at the top of stairs).

Let's remember to be in prayer for our children and adult choirs as they prepare for their Easter programs. Much time and effort goes into these programs and your love and support is greatly appreciated!

Craft Night

Attention ladies: don't forget about craft night Tues., March 6th. This night has been designated as the time to work on crafts for the church bazaar in Dec. Proceeds will go towards the purchase of new church bus/van. Even if you think you might not be able to make anything, you are still welcome to join in the fun and fellowship. So remember to be at the church next Tues. from 6:30-9pm.

My How Time Goes By!!

Hello and good Thursday evening to you! My how time goes by so quickly. It has been 2 weeks since I last posted anything here. I do apologize. I wanted to take a few minutes to mention some activities that will be taking place.

First off, there will be a deacon's meeting this Sunday, March 4th at 8am.

Our pastor will be bringing some very thought provoking sermons over the next few weeks. The morning series is entitled "The Journey to a Missional Church". The purpose of this series is to allow every member of the church to see and understand his or her role in the local church and the universal body of Christ. As we are aware, we know how important all the parts of our body are. Without certain parts, we wouldn't be able to do the things we do. This also applies to those that make up the church. For without each person doing the work he or she is designed to do, it makes reaching the goal a lot harder.

The evening series will be entitled "What is a Baptist?" This series will explore baptism and who runs the church. While it takes many parts to get the work done, we must remember that God is in control and is the head of the church. If God is not in His rightful place, His desires for us can not be carried out. We must allow Him to lead us down the path He would have us travel.

Men's breakfast will be Sunday, March 18th at 8am in the fellowship hall. Remember to mark your calendars and bring a friend for a blessed time of food and fellowship.

Daylight savings time is right around the corner. Don't forget to "spring" forward Sat. night (March 10th) before going to bed that evening.

Women on Mission will be meeting on Wed., March 21st right after Wed. night supper. Meetings are usually held in the choir room in the fellowship hall. All the ladies of the church are invited to attend!

The children have been working on their Easter Cantata entitled "Alive, Alive". The program will be performed by God's Kids and Preschool Praisers. The cantata will be Sunday, March 25 at 6pm. Hope to see you there!

There will be an associational Vacation Bible School training at North FBC Tues, March 20 from 6;30-9pm. Speaking of VBS, it will be held during the week of June 3-7th. Remember to be in prayer about this and make plans to be in attendance!

The Annie Armstron Easter offering will begin soon. The goal for this year is $2700.00.

Our Minister of Students is hard at work planning activities for the youth and children. Remember to keep the Student Ministry in your prayers and be supportive of its leader and the young people involved. He (MOS) has several activities planned that he would like to have mentioned.

1) There will be a youth party Sat., March 17th in the gym from 7-10pm. Come out and join in the fun. Remember to wear your green! Refreshments and games will be available. Invite a friend or two!

2) Plans are in the works for a Youth Retreat this year. If all goes well, the youth will be going to Centrifuge at North Greenville College in Greenville, SC. Keep an eye out for more information pertaining to this retreat. A sign up sheet will be available soon. They will be going during one of the following weeks: July 9th-14th or July 16th-21st. If you would like more information, go to Lifeway.com and type "Centrifuge" in the search box.

3) Attention students and parents: Listen up during the annoucements during the annoucements for open gym dates!

There's a Chill in the Air

Hello and good Sunday evening to each of you. I hope you had a wonderful day. I trust that you all are staying warm and cozy. It has certainly been a windy day. I wanted to take a few minutes to remind you of some activities taking place in and around our church this week.

If you are participating in the "Know Fear" study, don't forget about the make-up session tomorrow night. The class is being held in the fellowship hall and will begin at 7pm for those who aren't able to make it on Sunday evenings. The topic for this week is death. Never an easy subject to discuss, but one that bears some attention. In other words, we must be prepared for that day.........the day we will leave this earth and stand in front of our creator. We will be held accountable for those things we did here on earth. The opportunities we had to witness to others and be an example of Christ's love for us. We are only on this earth for a time and if you are a believer in Christ, you will spend eternity with Him in paradise. It is an important decision..........the most important one you will make in your whole life. If you haven't or someone who know hasn't accepted Jesus Christ..............allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into accepting Him as Lord and Savior of your life. The benefits certainly outweigh the reasons not to accept Him.

Attention WMU members: All ladies are invited to attend the next WMU meeting Wed., Feb. 21 at 7pm in the choir room (located in the fellowship hall). Along with the regular items on the agenda, you will be given an opportunity to participate in the Valentine Swap. It has been asked that you bring an item from home instead of going out to buy something. Please make sure the item is in good condition. Come and join in the fun and fellowship.

Craft Night: originally it was stated in the bulletin that craft night would be held every Tuesday. That has been changed. Ladies are invited to participate in craft night on the first and third Tues. of each month. The first Tues. will be a night to work on crafts for the Christmas bazaar. The third Tues. will be a "do your own thing" kind of night. If you enjoy scrapbooking, crocheting, knitting, etc......then you are invited to join in the fun. Even if you aren't sure if you would be able to make something, folks are available the first Tues. of the month to assist you in getting started on your crafts for the bazaar. So remember that you will meet this Tues. evening, Feb. 20th at 6:30pm. Come and bring a friend!

The youth will be venturing out this Friday evening (Feb. 23rd). The van will leave the church at 5pm. The concert will begin at 7pm at the Colonial Center in Columbia. The cost for tickets is $10.00 at the door and money is needed for food. This event is being hosted by New Song, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, Hawk Nelson and Sanctus Real. If you would be willing to chaperone, please contact our Minister of Students. I can remember being in the youth group and going on outings such as this..........it is certainly worth the trip and the time! An experience you won't forget!!

Next Sunday, Feb. 25th, there will be a brief meeting after the morning service with our Pastor, Music Minister and sound techs. If you help with the sound system, remember to be in attendance next Sunday.

The adult choir has been working on the Easter Cantata. I will say we are all in for a treat. If you wish to join the choir, now's the time. We would love to have you join us! If you are a member of the choir and haven't been in a while, then please consider coming back. You are greatly missed!

Don't forget: while the remodeling of the church offices is being done, mailboxes are located outside the old choir room in the hallway near the counting room. Remember to be in prayer that things will go smoothly with this undertaking. Your patience and understanding during this time is greatly appreciated!

I believe that covers all I have for now. I also want to say thank you to those who read this blog and for the encouragement received. It is my honor and privilege to be blessed in this capacity. I praise the Lord for granting me the ability to perform this duty. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!

Upcoming Activities

Hello and good Sunday afternoon to each of you! I hope you have had a wonderful day so far. Here are some activities that will be taking place around our church over the coming week.

Don't forget about the "Know Fear" session this afternoon at 5pm in the fellowship hall. Tonight's session is on "Fear of Loneliness". Being lonely does not necessarily mean being all by yourself. You can be lonely even in a group of people. Something just isn't right and you can't put your finger on it. You just don't feel whole/complete. Some folks are quite happy being alone, but that doesn't make them lonely. I was in a relationship several years ago and things just didn't work out the way I had hoped they would. The relationship came to an end and I haven't found that "right" person again. I have placed this in the Lord's hands and trust that He will supply the right individual for me. Does this mean I am lonely? No!!! I have family and friends who love me and best of all I have a Lord and Savior who loves me beyond all measure! I am quite happy in my singleness. His will is to be done in this area of my life (along with all the others).

Then the topic of tonight's sermon is "A Cure for Loneliness". If you are feeling alone, then this might be the message you need to hear. Sure, there times when we all feel a little isolated, but that doesn't mean that we feel that way all the time. God wants to cure our loneliness and give us the peace and comfort that only He can provide.

This morning was our Minister of Students first day with us. Many of you had the chance to speak to him at that time. If you haven't had the chance to meet him, please take the time to give a warm North FBC welcome. There will be a "pounding" for him this Wednesday night at supper at 6pm. Let's extend a friendly, loving hand and help him stock his pantry. We all know how difficult it is setting up housekeeping for the first time (or even in a new place)..let's make his transition a little easier by extending a Christian hand of love and fellowship!

The preschoolers will have their own Valentine's banquet tomorrow night from 6-7:30 in the fellowship hall.

The make up session of "Know Fear" will be held at 7pm in the gym Monday evening.

Men's breakfast will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18th at 8am in the fellowship hall. All men are encouraged to attend.

The youth will be heading to the Colonial Center in Columbia on Friday, Feb. 23rd. They will be joining other young people from surrounding areas at the Youth Winter Jam Tour hosted by New Song, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, Hawk Nelson and Sanctus Real. Tickets are $10.00 at the door and money is needed for food. They will leave from the church at 5pm. Concert begins at 7pm.

Welcome..........

to our new youth and children's leader. He will be joining us for his first day tomorrow (Feb. 11th). He comes to us from Union Point, Georgia. Remember to take a moment to introduce yourself to him. Let's do all we can to make him feel welcome. I wish him all the success that God has in store for him.

In light of our new youth and children's leader....there will be a "pounding" for him this Wed., Feb. 14th. This will be a good way to help him stock his pantry. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend Wed. evening. Remember, supper starts at 6pm followed by prayer meeting.

Speaking of Valentine's Day..........don't forget to take the time to let those closest to you know how much they mean to you. Tokens of love and appreciation shouldn't be saved for only Valentine's Day though.........we should remember to tell them each and every day how much treasure them. Valentine's Day would also be a great day to tell someone else of the love that Jesus Christ has for him or her. What better way to share the joy of love than passing along an eternal gift of life in Christ?!

The preschoolers will be having their own Valentine's Day party. It will be held on Monday, Feb. 12th from 6-7:30 in the fellowship hall.

Also, if you have any jeans you would like to donate to a good cause........they are needed to help fill the clothes closet in West Virginia. All sizes are needed. Please bring them to the church as soon as possible so they can be delivered to the folks that need them.

Let's also remember the many renovations that are taking place around our church. Folks are busy trying to get our pastor and ministry assistant settled into their new offices. As we are all aware, when making renovations you are bound to run into a few snags here and there. So let's remember in prayer those who are involved with this project in the hopes that things will go as smoothly as possible and according to God's perfect will.

Ladies (and men): Don't forget about the special craft night being held once a month. Crafts are being made to sell at our Christmas bazaar this year to help purchase a new church bus. If you are unable to get out and come and join in the fun and fellowship, please contact the church office and let them know. They will get the proper folks in touch with you so that you can work on things at home to help with this project. Even if you think you aren't able to make anything, everyone is encouraged to participate and folks are available to help you through any difficulties you may have with the craft you are working on.

Facing the Giants

Good Saturday evening to each of you! I just finished watching 2 very inspirational movies. "One Night with the King" and "Facing the Giants". Both were awesome. "One Night with the King" is the story of Esther, Queen of Persia and the difference she made in being queen. "Facing the Giants" is a football story of a coach in a Christian Academy with a very bad losing streak. He overhears some men trying to get him ousted. He and his wife are having many difficulties (car trouble, household repairs that need to be made with no extra funds to get the work done, and they have been trying to have a baby for 4 years with no success.

At his lowest point, he turns everything over to God and many miracles abound as a result. You will have to watch the film to get the full impact. It lead me to write this entry tonight though. As I was watching, football is a great deal like life. If you go into the game with a losing attitude, then losing will be the end result. If you go into it with a positive attitude and do your best, the chances for winning are increased.

We all have giants to face. Whether they be dealing with a difficult job, things being tough at home, not having enough money to make ends meet, difficulties in having children...........and the list can go on and on. If we face those giants with the attitude that we are defeated before we ever get started, then we have given those giants all the power they need. The power to crush our spirit and keep us feeling less than our best.

When we choose to face those giants with the attitude of an achiever and with the faith that all things are possible for those who love the Lord..............we have a better chance of being successful. When success comes our way, we need to remember to give God the glory. It is through His grace and mercy that we are able to press on when things get too difficut. It is through His grace and mercy that we able to attain the unattainable.

Nothing that I have is not without God's loving grace. In a moment it can all be taken away. We can rest assured in one thing..................God's love for us NEVER fails. He will provide and meet our every need if only we will let Him. He wants nothing but His best for His children.

My prayer tonight is that we all will lay our giants at God's feet. Thus allowing Him to be in control of our lives. Let His will be done. If you are reading this entry and have not committed your life to Christ......now is the time. Do not delay. I pray that you will lay your burdens/giants at God's feet and allow Jesus to come into your heart.

When it seems like all is lost and you wonder why bad things keep happening...........it isn't God causing those bad things to happen. It is often a result of our bad choices. He never gives us more than we can handle. Satan runs amuck and plants little seeds that develop into giants. Giants that can keep us from doing God's work and being where God would want us to be.

So again, I encourage you......if haven't accepted Christ, please make that decision right now. Allow Jesus to come into your heart. You will have a forever friend and a constant guide. If you have accepted Christ and have strayed away from the path He would have you walking on, make the step to return to Him. He will not turn you away. We all have giants to face..............and facing them with fellow brothers & sisters-in-Christ is much better than trying to face them on your own. Aligning yourself with fellow believers is what God would want us to do. We are not to be unkind to those less fortunate than we are. We are not to be unkind to those who have hurt us. We are not to be unkind to those who don't dress like we dress, or walk or talk like we talk. Instead we are to be an example. An example of Christ's love and sacrifice.

Allow Christ to be Lord of your life. It is one gift you can give to yourself that you will never want to return. Allow Him to slay those giants and His will be done in your life.

Hustle and Bustle

Good rainy Thursday! Hope everyone is staying warm and dry. Some areas were blessed with snow, while others got mostly rain. Regardless, it is all a part of God's glorious power and beauty. We have a lot going on in and around our church. I hope everyone will participate as the Lord would allow.

We are continuing our "Know Fear" Bible study. It has been very rewarding and I hope everyone will learn what the Lord has in mind for this study. If you weren't able to participate in this study, hopefully you will be able to do so in the future. Also, if you aren't able to make it to the Sunday night session, there is a make up session on Monday evenings in the fellowship hall at 7pm.

It is my understanding that the craft nights have been going quite well. In fact, the first night was such a success that it has now been expanded. Instead of only meeting one night per month.......it has now grown into a special craft night for making items for our church Christmas bazaar. The bazaar will be held on Dec. 8th along with soup and cornbread. Ladies and men are invited to join in the fellowship. One night has been set aside each month to work on this project. The first night (Tues., Jan 30th) was quite a success. There 20 ladies present that night. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 6th from 6:30-9pm in the youth room in the educational building. A donation of $2-3 will be taken up the first night to cover the cost of supplies. After that, a list will be given to each individual to purchase their own supplies. If you aren't able to get out at night, you can still participate by working at home. Please contact the church office for the individuals in charge of this project.

The other Tuesday nights will be a come and do your thing gathering. A time of creativity and fellowship. A good way to release some tension from a hard day at work or to simply get out of the house for a bit. The fundraiser is being done in order to raise funds to purchase a new church bus. If you have any craft suggestions, please write your ideas down and place them in the basket in the vestibule. If you decide to participate in this activity, you will be assisting in making a snowman out of landscape timbers and other small crafts. So come on out and give it a try. Even if you think you might not be able to make anything, you may be surprised at what hidden talent may be released in working for the Lord!


The children will have an outing this Sat., Feb. 3rd. Children grades 1-6 will leave the church at 1pm and will return around 6pm. Money is needed for a trip to McDonald's, bowling and shoe rental.

There will be a Deacon's Meeting this Sunday, Feb. 4th at 8am. All deacons are encouraged to be in attendance!

Our new student minister will be joining us Sunday, Feb. 11th. He comes to us from Union City, Ga and has been ministering as a part time youth leader at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fairburn, Ga since Jan. 2005. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Atlanta Christian College, East Point, Ga and also a major in Biblical Studies and a minor in youth ministry. There will be a "pounding" for him Wed., Feb. 14th. Come and meet him and bring some goodies to help stock his pantry and make his transition to North FBC an easy one.

There is some construction work going on in our church office. If you have a mailbox there, they have been moved upstairs to the first room on the right. Please remember to be careful as you make your way up the steps and remember to check your mailbox periodically. Just because they have been moved, doesn't mean the mail isn't there anymore! Your assistance is appreciated!

Feeling Crafty?

I know.........what in the world is Tina thinking? Well ladies, here's our opportunity to get together and have a little time away from the house and we get to spend with our sisters-in-Christ and do something we love at the same time! Tomorrow night (Jan. 23rd) is the first craft night for the ladies of the church. All ladies are invited to attend. It will be held in the fellowship hall from 6-9pm. You will be able to bring whatever crafts you are working on or even those crafts you have been meaning to start working on and could never find the time to do so. Whatever your fancy is.........whether it's scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, etc. you are welcome to attend. Even if you aren't sure what craft you might like to work on, someone there may have some ideas to help get you started.

So tell the husbands, boyfriends, etc. they are own their own from 6-9 Tuesday evening and come and spend some time with the girls!

Hello! Hope your Sunday evening is going well. We have been blessed today with a few showers of rain. We were also very blessed with the service this morning. Our guest speaker did a wonderful job. The all male choir did an excellent job! (by the way....where are all you men in the choir normally?). Would love for you to join us! The trio also did an terrific job. We have such talented individuals in our church. It's great to see the talents displayed and put to use in worshiping our Lord and Savior!

The Discipleship Training class "Know Fear" is moving along wonderfully. It really is making you think and focus on things you might have overlooked otherwise. Fear is human, but God wants us to overcome those fears so that He may be able to use us to do His work. May those who are participating in this class walk away with renewed strength! (If you are unable to attend the Sunday night session, there is a make-up class on Monday evenings at 7pm in the fellowship hall.)

The ladies of the church will be having a "Craft Night" Tuesday, Jan. 23rd from 6-9pm. Bring a friend and come join in the fun and fellowship. This activity will be held in the fellowship hall.

A couple of our church members recently took a trip. This Wednesday night during Prayer Meeting at 7pm they will share about their travels. You are in for quite a treat!

Chilly Weather

Fortunately for our part of the world we have avoided some of the bad weather. It has been a very cold, dreary day outside indeed. But the cold, dreary day doesn't have to have a bearing on the warmth and kindness we can display as Christians. I hope that each of you were able to reap at least one good thing from this day. I am thankful that the weather was not any worse than it was. I pray that those without power will soon have it restored. We have been so blessed. There are those in this country who are feeling the cold today. They don't have homes to shelter them from the cold and rain. They don't have loved ones to comfort them when comfort is needed. I hope and pray that when people come in contact with each of us, we give off the warmth and love of Christ Jesus. The words "Let others see Jesus in you" need to be more than just a song. They need to come to life and be displayed for all to see. It is something that I know I need to work on and become better about doing.

It is very easy to get wrapped up in the things of the world. We have to learn not to allow the every day things get us off track of the job God has for us to do. Satan becomes very pleased when he sees one of God's children wandering aimlessly. We have to keep God where He belongs. That is in first place. If we allow God to be in control of our lives, we are better equipped to fight off Satan and his army. Satan is only as powerful as we allow him to be. Satan loves it when we allow the cold, dreariness of life to set in and keep us down-hearted. When we step into the light of Jesus, Satan's power becomes weak. Pray to always be in the light of our Lord and Savior. Keep Satan in the dark, forever at bay.

I hope that you are making plans to be a part of Baptist Men's Day this Sunday, Jan. 21st. The day will begin with Men's Breakfast at 8am. Men of all ages are invited to attend. There will be an all male choir that morning as well (practice will be immediately following men's breakfast). One of our former church members will be the guest speaker of the day. I am looking forward to hearing him speak. Invite someone to join you for this special day!

Kickoff

Good Sunday evening to each of you! I hope you had a blessed Sunday. We began the adult Bible study tonight entitled "Know Fear: Facing Life's Six Most Common Phobias". We all have things in our lives that make us afraid. The purpose of this study is to focus on 6 different areas that are common in everyone's personal lives. The goal is to equip us as Christians with the proper tools to help us overcome these fears.

God is aware that we have these fears. Whether it be a fear of flying or of God Himself. For me, I would have to say that God doesn't necessarily mean for us to be "afraid" of Him as we would be afraid of heights, snakes, spiders, etc. I feel the context in which the word "afraid" is used to describe God means we should respect and honor Him.

Each session is taking place over the next 6 weeks during the Discipleship Training hour at 5pm. There was a very good number attending tonight. For those that were teaching another class, there will be a 30 minute session tomorrow night in the fellowship hall beginning at 7pm.

During our quarterly church conference this morning it was announced that we have a new Youth & Children's minister coming to us in Feb. His first day will be Sunday, Feb. 11th. There will be "pounding" for him Wed., Feb. 14th. What "pounding" means is bringing canned or boxed goods to help stock his pantry, etc. It doesn't mean beating him over the head with a baseball bat. (not that anyone would............but you never know!) Just kidding. I know none of our church family would do such a thing! :-)

So bring your canned or boxed goods that Wed. evening when you come for supper and prayer meeting. As always supper begins at 6pm with prayer meeting immediately following.

As I have mentioned several times, Baptist Men's Day is next Sunday, Jan. 21st. All men are invited and encouraged to attend Men's breakfast at 8am that day. The all male choir will practice after breakfast at 9am in the choir room. There will be guest speaker during the morning worship hour. Mark the date on your calendar and invite someone to join you in this wonderful time of worship and fellowship!

Attention Ladies: Women on Mission will be meeting this Wed. night at 7pm. The meeting will be held in the choir room in the fellowship hall. All ladies are invited to attend.

Another event for ladies is "Craft Night". This will be held in the fellowship hall on Tuesday, Jan. 23rd from 6-9pm. This should be a fun time for all who attend. Why should the men always have all the fun??!! :-)

As always, remember to pray for those serving in the Armed Forces. We have several church members who are having health problems right now. As well as several folks in the community. While they may not be listed here, the Lord knows their needs. Please pray for them.

Activities for the week.........

Hello and good Saturday afternoon to each of you. I hope had the opportunity to get out and enjoy a little of the sunshine and warmth we have been blessed with today. Cold weather and rain is in the forecast for next week. But all is well.....our Lord is in control of it all!

Tomorrow morning's service is on "Hope: A Theology of the Resurrection". Then tomorrow night we begin the study entitled "Know Fear". It will be held during the discipleship training hour at 5pm. I am looking forward to it and hope to see you there! The evening worship services beginning tomorrow evening and ending on Sunday, Feb. 25th will supplement the DT study. And remember, you don't have to participate in the DT hour to join in the evening worship hour.

There will be a quarterly church business meeting tomorrow morning as well. All church members are encouraged to attend.

Women on Mission will meet this Wednesday evening (Jan. 17th) immediately following Wed. night supper. All ladies are invited to attend!

We are also looking forward to Baptist Men's Day on Sunday, Jan. 21st. Men's breakfast will be at 8am that day. There will be an all male choir during the morning service. A former church member will be the guest speaker that morning. Baptist Men's Day is always a special event in our church and we look forward to having you join us!

Don't forget to let the church office know of any birthdays, anniversaries, etc. you wish to have listed in the monthly newsletter. Keeping current records is very important and your assistance is appreciated. Showers of Blessing

Good Sunday afternoon! Hope you are enjoying this rain we have been blessed with. An excellent time to catch up on some overdue reading, making that phone call you have been meaning to make, finally taking that afternoon nap (just to name a few). The weather certainly has been odd for this time of year. I have enjoyed having the warmer days. One thing is for sure, it's one of God's many ways to remind us that He is in control! May His showers of blessing continue to rain down on us!

I wanted to remind everyone of the Christiam music group that will be joining us tonight. The name of the group is "Commandment 11". They are based in Simpsonville, SC. A love offering will be taken up tonight on their behalf. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Invite someone to join you. The service begins at 6pm.

Last chance: if you have been trying to decide on whether to participate in the upcoming Discipleship Training class "Know Fear", the deadline to sign up is here! Make sure you add your name to the list tonight. You don't want to miss out on this opportunity! The cost of the books is $5.00 per person (money can be paid next Sunday, Jan. 14th). Remember that the class begins next Sunday at 5pm in the fellowship hall. The evening worship service will supplement the DT class. You don't have to attend the class to enjoy the worship hour, but do consider joining the class in a time of study and fellowship! Hope to see you there.

Also, if you are on the Youth Committee, don't forget about the meeting this afternoon. It starts a 4pm in the Youth building.

Fish Fry: The XYZ will have a meeting this Friday, Jan. 12th at 6:30pm. Sounds like a fun time of food and fellowship!

Your help is needed in maintaining the monthly calendar of birthdays, anniversaries, etc. If you are aware of any birthdays or anniversaries of our church family that are not currently on the calendar, please let the church office know. Also, if you are not receiving a monthly newsletter and would like to do so, please contact the church office with your current address. Keeping things current helps everyone involved. It makes the process much easier when properly maintained. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

I think that covers all I have for now. Remember to pray for those serving in our military (and their families) as well as those in our community who are sick, bereaved or otherwise in need of God's loving grace. We can never know the needs of everyone, but if we join together as brothers and sisters-in-Christ and pray for those we know need His healing hand, it's a mighty way to show Christ's love through us and in us.

Fish Fry

The XYZ meeting next Friday, Jan. 12th is going to be Fish Fry. It will begin at 6:30pm. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Also, regarding the books for the upcoming Discipleship Training Class.........the cost is $5.00 and the money will be due the first night of class (Sun., Jan. 14th). All adults are encouraged to attend. Hope to see you there!

Greetings in 2007

Well, it's finally here. The year 2007. Even though I have not been on this earth but 36 years, things certainly have changed since I was a child. That's how things work though. The world keeps revolving and life must go on. With that being said, that means that as Christians we should be about the work of the Lord. Doing the things He would have us do and living the type of life that is pleasing to Him! After all, it is by His grace and the blood that was shed on Calvary that sets us free.

I have never been one to plan the whole "New Year's Resolution" thing. But I will say that there are definitely areas that need improving. We all have room for growth. And if anyone thinks they don't have room to improve, they are greatly misleading him or herself. Jesus has set a high example for us all to live up to. Even on our best days we still won't be able to reach that level. I encourage everyone (including myself) to work a little harder and try to be the person God would have us be.

We have several things happening in our church this week. First off, there will be a Deacon's Meeting Sunday morning, Jan. 7th at 8am. That afternoon there will be a Youth Committee meeting at 4pm in the youth building.

On Friday, Jan. 12th there will be an XYZ meeting. I will provide more info on this once I have it.

Women on Mission are scheduled to meet Wed., Jan. 17th immediately following the Wed. night supper. All ladies are invited to attend.

Sunday, Jan. 21st is Baptist Men's Day. All the gentlemen of the church are invited to participate. There will be an all-male choir that morning. Men, this is your time to shine! I have always enjoyed the Baptist Men's Day service. I encourage you to attend. You will certainly be blessed. Early that morning the men will meet in the fellowship hall for Men's Breakfast at 8am. Come on out and invite some other men to join you for a special day!

Backing up on the calendar...........don't forget about the special music we will have next Sunday during the evening worship hour at 6pm. Commandment 11 will be performing that evening. The group is based in Simpsonville, SC. Make plans now to be in attendance and bring someone with you!

Other Important Activities

I apologize for the oversight..........I meant to mention these items in my last post, but I forgot to do so.

Remember to mark these dates on your calendar. There will be a Deacon's Meeting Sunday, Jan. 7th at 8am. There will also be an XYZ meeting Friday, Jan. 12th (will post more about this when I have more info).

The church office will be closed both Monday & Tuesday, Jan. 1st and 2nd in observance of New Year's Day. If you need to contact the church office, you may call and leave a message or you can give them a call on Wednesday!

News & Highlights for January 2007

Yes, it's hard to believe that another year will soon begin. Time stands still for noone. In this new year, we have some exciting things happening in our church. Remember to make note of them so you won't miss out on anything! And as always, invite someone to join you.

First of all the sermons for Sunday morning will be as follows:

Jan. 7th: "Faith: A Theology of the Cross"

Jan. 14th: "Hope: A Theology of the Resurrection"

Jan. 28th: "A Living Stone: Part 1"

Feb. 4th: "A Living Stone: Part 2"

On Sunday evenings the series will further supplement the study for Discipleship Training entitled "Know Fear". It promises to be very worthwhile. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Invite someone you know. We all have fears. Satan plays on those fears. During this study you will learn how face life's six most common phobias. The kick-off will take place Sunday, Jan. 14th at 5pm in the fellowship hall. The cost of the books is $5.00 per person and the deadline to sign up is Sunday, Jan. 7th. A sign up sheet will be available in the vestibule.

The evening worship hour will focus on the following topics:

Jan. 14th: "The Ultimate Choice"

Jan. 21st: "The Future Fear"

Jan. 28th: "The Fear of Commitment"

Feb. 4th: "The Failure Factor"

Feb. 11th: "A Cure for Loneliness"

Feb. 18th: "The Fear of Death"

Feb. 25th: "Fear God?"

As you can see, this will be an exciting study and worship time. Satan will do all he can to play on these fears and break us down with the hope of having us follow him. He will stop at no cost to anyone. It is up to us as Christians to be equipped with the right tools to ward off Satan and his army. When we are able to properly use those tools, Satan's power will be minimized. As our pastor states in January's newsletter, Jesus has given us the command. This command is found in the Great Commission. As followers of Christ, it is our duty to go and teach. When we are properly equipped, the fear that we dealt with before no longer has the hold on us it once did. Are we willing to make that step?

Other exciting news is there will be a contemporary Christian music ministry team appearing Sunday, Jan. 7th. The name of the group is Commandment 11. The group is based in Simpsonville, SC. Mark the date on your calendar and invite someone to join you!

The Presents Have Been Opened....

Well, it's the day after Christmas and all the presents have been opened. Children are playing with their new treasures. Even the grown-up children are in awe over the new "toys" they have received. One thing is certain, after all the wrapping and un-wrapping is done, the garland is removed and the tree put away for another year....the promise of our Savior abounds all year long. We can now focus on a new year and the things we wish to work on during that new year. Now begins the task of making that "New Year's Resolution" list. Hopefully we will accomplish more than just the mere task of writing those things down we wish to improve on. And I am sure we all have things we need to work on.

My hope and prayer is that we allow Christ to work in and through us to become the people He would have us to be. That should be a top priority on our list. In light of the upcoming new year, our church will have a New Year's Eve service. During that time, communion will be observed. Are we really where we need to be in our walk with Christ? Are we at peace with those around us and with our Lord? These are some things we need to think about before partaking of the Lord's Supper. Making right those wrongs that may have occurred (even ones we don't think are wrong). If it is wrong in God's sight, then it is wrong.

Also during the New Year's Eve service, there will be candle-lighting. This to me symbolizes the birth of a new year. A chance for new beginnings. Invite a friend, neighbor or family member to join you for this special service. The worship hour Sunday, Dec. 31st will be at 6pm.

If you are a member of the choir, practice will be held this Sunday, Dec. 31st at 5pm. If you need to be in Discipleship Training, then you will be excused from practice.

Immediately following the evening service, there will be a time of fellowship for all. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. Come and join in this special time with fellow brothers and sisters-in-Christ.

North First Baptist Church at Christmas

Here are just a few pictures of our sanctuary decorated for Christmas. I am working on getting permission to post a couple of pictures from some of the programs we have had recently. If I am able to gain the permission I need, I will post them here to share with everyone. In the meantime, please enjoy the ones we have available now.

Spreading Christmas Cheer

I don't know how many of you subscribe to the North Trade Journal, but there was a story on the front page that touched my heart and I wanted to share it with you. If you do subscribe, then I encourage you to take the time to read the article. It always warms my heart and brings a smile to my face when I see people helping others. This particular article was in regards to the Angel Tree that was placed in the Piggly Wiggly here in North. Upon this tree, there were 24 angels placed on the tree. Each angel had the individual's size and need on them. From the Angel Tree, folks who wished to participate in this ministry, could select an angel, purchase the gift and wrap it and bring it back to Piggly Wiggly to await pick-up for delivery.

I am in agreement with the words the Store Operator had to say in the article. Some people have indeed taken the "Christ" out of Christmas..........for this, I feel for them. There is no greater gift than the love Christ has for us and please pardon me for saying this, but I don't see any of these people dying on a cross to save us from our sins. Maybe when they do that, they will be a little more entitled to their self-righteous opinions.

Anyway, back to the story at hand. The story mentioned that all 24 names had been selected and gifts were there for everyone whose name was on the tree. That absolutely makes me shout with glee! The giving spirit seems to come alive more this time of year. We need/should strive to make it this way all year long! Many thanks to those who participated in this ministry. You certainly are angels......angels of a compassionate and loving God and may you continue to receive His bountiful blessings!

In other news, there is an article on the first page of the Trade Journal in regards to the upcoming development of a new Community Center here in North. Plans are to have it facing the ball fields. This should be an exciting project for our town and hopefully one that everyone can participate in and enjoy! For more information on this project, there will be a meeting on Jan. 29th at 7pm at the North Town Hall. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Rumor has it that there will be a special guest in the Town Square this Sunday, Dec. 24th. I understand this guest will be arriving at 3pm. Everyone is invited. There will be FREE candy for the children and prizes for the adults. Adults must be 18 to register for the drawings. This event is being sponsored by North Furniture.

We will have our regular morning activities tomorrow, Dec. 24th. If you have a poinsettia in the church, you will be able to pick it/them up after the morning worship hour. There will be no evening services. Activities for Wed. night will remain the same and next Sunday, Dec. 31st during the evening worship hour, we will be observing Communion and will also have candle-lighting (a special way to celebrate the ending of a year and bringing in the new). Evening services for Dec. 31st will remain at normal times (Discipleship Training at 5pm and evening worship hour at 6pm). Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring a friend, family member or neighbor!

The Promise Delivered

Good Monday evening to each of you! If you missed the cantata last night, you surely missed a blessing. It's hard for me to remain impartial, especially when I am a choir member. I have always enjoyed hearing our choir sing whether I am a member or not. Our church has been blessed with such talented people. Praise God for His blessings upon us! If you weren't able to attend, always keep in mind you can a request a copy of the tape. Copies are available of all the Sunday services (both morning and evening).

The youth will have gym time this Friday, Dec. 22nd. The date has been changed from Sat., Dec.23rd to Fri., Dec. 22nd. During this time, the parents and children (grades 1-4) are invited to attend from 6-7pm. There will be a pizza party during that hour. You will also have the opportunity to meet a prospective youth minister. So don't forget to make plans to be there if you are part of the youth group or the parent and child (grades 1-4). Gym time will be held from 6-9pm.

Children's grades 1-6 will be heading out this Thursday, Dec. 21st. They will be going to Riverbanks Zoo to see the "Lights Before Christmas". The group will be leaving the church at 6pm and will be arriving back at the church around 9:30pm. You will need money for food and $5.00 for zoo admission.

Also, don't forget about Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Our church goal is $5,600.00. The national goal is $150 million. Lottie Moon is one of the largest missions we participate in every year. So many people are reached through organizations like this. An interesting tid bit we recently learned during the morning worship hour is that it takes $40,000.00 per year to support a missionary. Allow God to lead you in how He wants you to give to this wonderful ministry.

As I have stated before, let's not forget to pray for our service men and women, our missionaries, and all of the other folks who "work behind the scenes" to do all the jobs that need to be done. Let's also remember to pray for those that are sick, bereaved or in need in whatever way they need assistance. Some won't be able to be at home this Christmas, and we must remember to be thankful for all that they do for us and our country. Pray that God will keep them safe and have them return home soon.

The poinsettias have been placed in the church (this job was done on Sat.). Everything looks so beautiful. Many thanks again to the decorating committee...and many thanks to those ladies who worked so diligently to make sure every thing was taken care of with the poinsettias.

The adult choir will not have practice next Sunday (Christmas eve). We will be practicing Sun., Dec. 31st at 5pm. If this conflicts with your Discipleship Training hour, you will be excused from practice (although I think our DT leaders will understand). :-)

I pray that everyone will have a blessed Christmas. It will be here next Monday. We will not have evening services Sun., Dec. 24th. There will be a special service Sun. night, Dec. 31st. Invite someone to join you during this special time. We will observe the Lord's supper and will have candle lighting also. The candles represent hope for the New Year. Christ has come to bring us hope and ever lasting life. Remember to share the Christmas story with someone this Christmas season. No other gift can compare to that of our Lord and Savior!

Reminder

Hello! I meant to mention this in the last post I made, and I forgot to do so. The mind isn't working all too well some days. Don't forget about the Christmas card delivery. The last day is tomorrow (Sunday, Dec. 17th). The cost per card is $0.25. If you haven't done so, now is the time to get those cards ready!!

Also, don't forget about the cantata tomorrow night. It is being held at 6pm. Make plans to be there and bring a friend or two. Hope to see you there!

The Promise of a King

Promises. They can hold such power. They have the power to uplift and they have the power to dash dreams. To be uplifting, it is necessary for the person making the promise to keep that promise. To be the dasher of dreams, all one has to do is NOT do what he or she promised. A broken promise can do more than dash dreams away. It can damage a friendship, a relationship with a co-worker, family members......and the list can go on endlessly.

We, as Christians, have a promise that exceeds all others. We have the promise of our Savior that He will indeed come again. And if we only believe in Him, we will have everlasting life. What a promise! We must try and be like Christ when we make promises to other people. Jesus wouldn't forsake us by breaking His promise and we need to strive to be promise keepers.

Speaking of promises, the Chancel Choir (adult choir) will be performing "The Promise of a King" Sunday night, Dec. 17th. The service will begin at 6pm. Remember to bring someone with you and share the joy of Jesus' birth. The music will certainly stir your soul and put the feeling of Christmas in your heart.

I also wanted to remind the men of Men's breakfast this Sunday morning at 8am. If you know of a gentleman that you would like to share the love of Christ with, encourage him to join you on Sunday morning.

The children will be heading to Riverbanks Zoo next Thursday (Dec. 21st). This outing is for children grades 1-6. The group will leave the church at 6pm and will arrive back at the church around 9:30pm. You will need money for food and $5.00 for zoo admission. Outstanding Performance

I hope everyone took advantage of the opportunity to come and watch the performance the children did tonight. The musical was entitled "Baby Jesus, We Love You". There were angels, shepherds, animals (in costume, of course!), Mary and Jesus and we must not forget the singers. The performance was outstanding! Much applause to all of the children and all of the hard work they put into the many practices to be ready for tonight!

We must not forget those behind the scenes either! Many thanks to the leader of both choirs (God's Kids and Preschool Praiser's). It takes a lot of patience to handle a group of 24 children and keep everything moving along as it should. Many thanks also goes to those who assisted with the program and to those who developed the scenery. It takes a lot of hard work to make things work and we appreciate everyone and the job he or she had in tonight's performance! Hats off to you and to a job well done!

With that being said, the Chancel Choir (adult choir) will have a hard act to follow. We have been rehearsing for our upcoming cantata. It is next Sunday at 6pm. The cantata is entitled "The Promise of a King". We are looking forward to the performance and would love to see all of you there. Come on out and join us and invite someone to come along!

**Note: if you are in the choir and missed tonight's practice.....we will be practicing next Sat., Dec. 9th at 4pm. We will practice for 2 hours, then we will stop for a catered meal, then we will practice again from 7-8pm. If choir members haven't signed up already for the meal, please get in touch with choir director and do so. An accurate head count is important. We don't want anyone to be left out. Remember to include those that might be joining you!**

The toddlers are headed out for a night of fun this Tuesday evening. They will meet at the church at 5:30pm Tuesday evening and will be heading to Riverbanks Zoo to view the "Lights Before Christmas". The van will be leaving at 6pm. If you wish to join them at the zoo, the van should be arriving there about 6:40pm. This outing is for toddlers up to 5 years old.

The children will also be heading to Riverbanks Zoo to view the "Lights Before Christmas". Their outing will be on Thursday, Dec. 21st. They will be leaving the church at 6pm and will be returning to the church around 9:30pm. This outing is for children in grades 1-6. You will need to bring money for food and $5.00 for zoo admission.

Don't forget: we will begin a study in January entitled "Know Fear". It is designed as a 40 day experience and will last 6 weeks. It will enable you to face life's six (6) most common phobias. The kick-off will take place on Sunday, January 14th at 5pm. We will meet in the fellowship hall. The 40 day experience will include a DVD-driven Bible study that will meet seven (7) times in the fellowship hall. There will be a student book that includes daily reading and the Bible Study guide. In order to supplement the 40 day experience, the evening worship service will focus on the theme of the Bible study. If you aren't already involved in a Discipleship Training class, be sure to join us for this study. I know I am looking forward to it and I hope to see you there!

This is certainly a busy time of year. But even in all the "busyness", we should try very hard not to lose the true meaning of the season. Remember to take the time to do something special for someone this time of year. Donate to a charity or volunteer to take someone to the doctor who isn't able to drive. These are just some of the ways we can spread God's love to everyone. He has so richly blessed us all in more ways than we count on our fingers......let us do the Christian thing and give some of that love and richness to others!

I hope your week goes along smoothly. Don't forget to put on your "armor" when you get up in the morning. There will be many fiery darts being thrown and if we wear the armor God has given us, we will be able to stand against those darts in His love and grace! Until next time, take care and God bless!

The Cold Weather has Arrived!

Ah, winter.......isn't it wonderful? We had quite a frigid night last night. The temperature was in the teens (17, I believe was the last temp. I heard). Quite chilly to say the least! But during this Christmas season, let's replace the frigidity outside with warmth and love in our hearts for Christ and His blessings. Let's also replace the cold with that same warmth and love for our fellow man. That means showing kindness both to those that travel in the same "circle" as we do and to those that are not as fortunate as we are. I don't think any of us can say that God has not been good to us during the course of this year or any year. Things may not go as we want them to all the time, but all things work for good in them that love the Lord!

I encourage everyone to take the time to drop a few dollars into the red bucket of the Salvation Army. Give to the local shelters, etc. to help those in need. Give back a little of what we have been so graciously blessed with. I received an email this morning that spoke of remembering our troops during this holiday season. We should send up prayers for them not only during this Christmas season, but every day.

This post today is to also say "Thank you" to our men and women who serve in our Armed Forces. It is to thank those who deliver our mail, newspapers, packages and such. It is to thank those who collect the trash on a weekly basis. For those brave men and women who make sure our electricity works properly, the water is safe for us to drink, bathe and cook with. For those that serve and protect on the police forces, fire departments, paramedics, and first responders. Teachers who strive to make sure our children are equipped with the knowledge necessary to grow into thriving and prosperous adults. The doctors and nurses who work long hours with little sleep. The list could go on and on as we all know. I just want to say how much each of you are appreciated and how thankful we are for you!

Remember to keep them all in your prayers during this Christmas season as well as the rest of the year. We never know what someone else may be going through and it's important to treat others as you would want to be treated. So, before you say or do something you may regret later, pray about it and allow God to guide you in the best way to handle something. This is how we can carry the warmth, love and hope of Christmas with us each and every day! By allowing His light to shine through each of us!

I hope and pray that this Christmas season will be a blessed one for you and your families. Take time to say "I love you" and do something nice for someone. Do it and don't expect anything in return. Much love to each of you!

Joy to the World....

the Lord is come! Let earth receive her king! Praise the Lord that He has come and will come again. Christmas has to be my favorite time of year. It was as a child and even more so as an adult. The Christmas season reminds me of the hope and love that Jesus Christ brings to the world. We should praise and honor Him not only during the Christmas season, but all year long. He blesses us each and every day and we owe it to Him to honor and praise Him each and every day as well. So, in keeping with the Christmas spirit, I encourage everyone to allow Christ's love to shine in and through us not only during the Christmas season, but all year long.

I also want to say how beautiful the sanctuary is with the decorations. We have such a beautiful church and it becomes even more beautiful this time of year. Many thanks to those on the decorating committee for doing such a fine job (as always). The poinsettias will soon be on display and will add to the beauty of it all. Come and share in the beauty, not only the beauty of the decorations, but the beauty of all the Lord has done for us!

XYZ: don't forget about your upcoming outing this Friday evening. You will be leaving the church at 6pm, Dec. 8th and will be going to the Chestnut Grill in Orangeburg. Following the meal, you will then go to New Hope Baptist Church to view the "Life of Christ" performance. Please make sure your name is on the sign up sheet in the vestibule in order to confirm supper reservations. You are sure to receive a blessing!

The gym will be open this Sat., Dec. 9th from 7-10pm for children grades 5 and up. Come and bring a friend.

The children will be taking a trip to Riverbanks Zoo to see the "Lights Before Christmas", Thursday, Dec. 21st. Children grades 1-6 are invited to attend. The group will be leaving the church at 6pm and should arrrive back around 9:30pm. Money for food and $5.00 for zoo admission is needed.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12th there will be an outing just for toddlers. Please meet at church at 5:30pm so you will be able to leave with the rest of the group at 6pm. If anyone would like to meet the group there, they will be arriving at Riverbanks Zoo at 6:40pm. You sure to be in for a treat! You will be going to see the "Lights Before Christmas".

We have begun our study of the celebration of Advent "Sharing the Christmas Story". We will continue this study through Sunday, Dec. 24th. Advent means waiting and we are indeed waiting............waiting on the return of our Lord and Savior. Come and hear what the Lord has placed on our pastor's heart to share with us during this Advent season.

The children have been working very hard on their upcoming Christmas program. It will be held this Sunday, Dec. 10th at 6pm. There will be refreshments in the fellowship hall following the performance. The title for this year's Christmas musical is "Baby Jesus, We Love You". It will be performed by the Preschool Praiser's and God's Kids. It will portray the events that led up to the birth of Christ through the eyes of children. The children kicked it off with a special announcement of their own Sunday morning. Just a little glimpse of what is in store for us next Sunday evening. Everyone is invited. Come and bring a friend!
**Note: there will be a dress rehearsal this Sat, Dec. 9th at 1pm in the sanctuary.**

The adult choir (now known as the Chancel Choir) has also been preparing for our Christmas cantata. It is entitled "The Promise of a King", A Christmas Proclamation of Hope". It will be held Sunday, Dec. 17th at 6pm. Now I am sure some are wondering "What is a chancel choir?". The chancel choir is a SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir that provides the music during most Sunday services. Everyone is also invited to this performance as well. Hope to see you there!
**Note: the adult choir will practice next Sat., Dec. 16th. Practice will begin at 4pm, we will stop for a break at 6pm and then practice again until 8pm.**

Don't forget...there will be no evening services Sunday, Dec. 24th (Christmas eve). There will be a New Year's Eve service Sunday, Dec. 31st at 6pm with communion and candlelighting.

The young people have started delivering Christmas cards. Many thanks to the young people participating in this and to those who are over-seeing it. There is a great deal of work that goes on behind the scenes in a church and the Lord told His people to work til Jesus comes. Let's be busy about the work of Lord and our church. Doing those things that Christ would have us do is a good way to allow Christ's love to shine in and through us.

Let's also remember those who are sick, bereaved, recovering from surgery, etc. in our prayers. Even though their names are not mentioned here, God knows who they are, and every need will be met according to His will and in His time. We may not understand the reason why, but God does and that's what counts! May His blessings continue to fall on you and yours during this Christmas season!

Highlights for December.............

Hello and good Friday evening. Hope everyone had a good week. We are gearing up for a busy holiday season. Lots of good things to help us remember the meaning of Christmas. Remember to mark the dates on your calendar so you don't miss anything.

First of all, our pastor has some wonderful topics planned for us for the morning worship hour. We are studying the Advent. The theme is "Sharing the Christmas Story". The morning messages will be as follows:

Dec. 3rd: "Lessons from the Prophets"
Dec. 10th: "Lessons from the Life of Mary"
Dec. 17th: "Lessons from the Shepherds"
Dec. 24th: "Lessons from the Magi"

These should be very interesting and insightful. Hope to see you during the morning worship hour.

The children have been working hard on their annual Christmas program. It will be performed by the "Preschool Praiser's" and "God's Kids". It will be held on Sunday, December 10th at 6pm. Beginning Sunday, January 14th at 5pm, we will kick-off a 6 week discipleship series that will enable to face life's six most common phobias. It is a 40 day experiences entitled "Know Fear". The 40 day experience will include a DVD-driven Bible stude that will meet 7 times in the fellowship hall. There will be a student book that includes daily reading and the Bible study guide. A contemporary Christiam music ministry team base in Simpsonville, SC will be appearing at North FBC on Sunday, Jan. 7th at 6pm. Their group is called "Commandment 11". Mark the date on your calendar and invite someone to join you.

As you can see, we have a lot coming up in the next few weeks and to start off the new year. What better way to end this year and start the new than by worshiping our Lord and Savior!

Busy Time of Year

Well, here we are in the midst of the busiest time of year. Things seem to pick up rapidly during the month of December. Today was a busy day in and of itself. We had a wonderful time of worship this morning. The title of this morning's message was "Sharing the Christmas Story. Understanding Advent". Advent is the time leading up to Christ's coming. In this day and age, we are awaiting His second coming. The return of Christ to come and take His people home! Praise the Lord!

Today was the deadline for 2 very important events in our church. The West Virginia Christmas program and the ordering of the poinsettias. I hope everyone was able to participate as he or she felt led. We all have been blessed beyond measure and participating in things like the West Virginia program is one way we can give back.

Our annual North Christmas parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony was this afternoon as well. We had a terrific turnout for the festivities. The fireworks following the tree lighting ceremony were spectacular. The guest speaker encourage each of us to remember to give to those who are less fortunate than we are. There are many across the world who are in need, but the giving needs to start at home. We can improve our little part of the world by being the people God would have us to be. Putting ourselves in another person's shoes and acting as Jesus would act in a situation, rather than being so self-centered. We never know what another is going through and should really think before we speak. Extending a Christian hand of love by welcoming that new person who has come to our church, or by smiling and treating others the way we would want to be treated is a good way to display our Christian actions.

The youth Christmas card delivery started today. The cost of delivery for each card is $0.25 each. This ministry by the youth will end on Dec. 17th.

XYZ: don't forget to sign up in the vestibule for your Christmas gathering on Dec. 8th. You will meet at the church at 6pm on Dec. 8th and will go to Chestnut Grill in Orangeburg. After the meal, you will head for New Hope Baptist Church to view the Life of Christ performance. I have been fortunate enough to go to both Chestnut Grill and New Hope Baptist Church for the performance. You will receive a blessing indeed!

The children are working on their Christmas program. It will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10th at 6pm. They always do a fantastic job. Come on out and bring a friend or two. We always have a great turnout for this event. Let's make this year even better!

Speaking of Christmas programs, the adult choir is also working on their cantata. It will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17th at 6pm. The music is absolutely beautiful. Remember to mark the date on your calendar and invite all your family, friends and neighbors!

Much to be Thankful For

Happy Thanksgiving! The day is almost over, but the thanks should never end. We should always take time to be thankful for that which God has so richly blessed us with. I hope everyone had a wonderful day filled with family, friends and don't forget the turkey!

Last night's Community Service was a blessing. The refreshments that followed were delicious! Many thanks to those that helped prepare the spread that was available. It was a time of coming together in God's house to let Him know with our fellow brothers and sisters-in-Christ how truly thankful we are. I am thankful for a family that loves me (both at home and at church). I am thankful for a job to go to everyday and the abilities that God has blessed me with. I am thankful for the house I live in and the car I drive. I am thankful for the friends I have. I am thankful for the pets I have that love me unconditionally (they melt my heart). Most of all, I am thankful for a God who loves me beyond all measure!

I want to remind each of you of the upcoming Christmas parade and Tree Lighting ceremony this Sunday (Nov. 26th). The parade begins at 4pm. If you wish to ride on the church float, please meet at the church at 3:30pm. Everyone is invited to attend the tree lighting at 5pm. Our music minister has invited everyone to participate in the community choir for the tree lighting service. He is also leading the music for the tree lighting ceremony. There will be a fireworks display immediately following the tree lighting ceremony. In light of the upcoming events on Sunday, Discipleship training has been cancelled for the evening. We will have our evening worship service immediately following the festivities Sunday. Hope to see you there!

Don't forget to have your boxes ready for the West Virginia Christmas Program. The deadline is Sunday, Nov. 26th. Please bring the boxes or items to fill boxes to the fellowship hall. Remember, no money in boxes, please; and make sure you label each shoe box with age and gender. If you are putting together a cold kit, please make sure to place those items in a large freezer bag.

Youth Christmas card delivery will begin this Sunday, Nov. 26th as well. It will continue through Dec. 17th. The cost of each card is $0.25. The youth always do a terrific job with this. Keep up the good work! :-)

Also, if you would like to place an order for a poinsettia(s), the deadline for this is this Sunday, Nov. 26th. The cost of each flower is $12.00. Please make sure you indicate who the flower is placed by and who it is in memory or honor of. The poinsettias will be placed in the church Sat., Dec. 16th. Please give money and order forms (which are in your bulletin) to someone on the flower committee.

The children are preparing for their Christmas program. It will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10th during the evening worship hour. Everyone is invited to attend. They always do a wonderful job. Many thanks to their faithful director and all the hard work she puts into the Children's Choir! :-)

The adult choir is also preparing for our cantata. It will be held Sunday, Dec. 17th during the evening worship hour. Everyone is invited to attend this event as well!

As you can see, this Sunday will be a busy day. In the end, the display of Christian kindness (W. Va. Christmas program), the community coming together to worship and ring in the Christmas season, as well as our normal Sunday activities of Sunday School, worship and choir practice, are all something to be thankful for!

Hello and good Monday evening to you! I hope you had a productive day and didn't allow too many things to stress or worry you too much. Our pastor has been bringing some wonderful messages on stress, anxiety, depression and worry. There aren't many people who don't do those things. We can all certainly stand to learn how to not allow those things to control us and interfere with the blessings God has in store for us. I know I worry over things that I have no control over. There is no need to complain or worry. What good will it do? Our Lord and Savior asks that we lay our burdens at the cross. We need to allow Him to work through us and in us. Those things don't allow that blessing to happen. Satan will surely tempt us at every corner, but he can only do what he is allowed to do. We have to remember to put on our armor on every day and ward off those fiery darts he throws our way. We also need to remember that others see our actions in the workplace, in a grocery store, driving down the road.......we never know who is watching and being discouraged from our actions. It is hard not to allow certain things to bother us, but we have to keep in mind that things can only go as far as we allow them. Satan only has as much power as we allow him to have. No other is as strong as the Lord Himself!

We have many things taking place this week and in the weeks to come. The community Thanksgiving Service is Wed., Nov. 22nd. The service begins at 7am and is being held at North FBC this year. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Choir members have been asked to meet at 6:30 to practice the song for the special that evening. Several folks on the fellowship committee are meeting at the fellowship hall that afternoon to prepare the refreshments. Everyone is invited to attend. The pastor from North United Methodist Church as well as the pastor from North Pentecostal Holiness are scheduled to speak. Come and share in this time of praise and thanksgiving!

Toddler Time was held tonight in the gym from 6:30-8pm. I am not sure if this will be a weekly event. I will post more details on this as I receive them.

The annual North Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony is being held this Sunday. If you wish to ride on the float and represent North FBC, please meet at the church Sunday afternoon (Nov. 26th) at 3:30pm. The lighting ceremony will be at 5pm. Our Minister of Music will be leading the songs for the evening. There will be no discipeship training due to the tree lighting ceremony. Our evening service will begin immediately following the ceremony and fireworks. We encourage everyone to come out and participate.

The youth will begin delivering Christmas cards. The cost of delivery per card is $0.25. The time frame for this is from Sunday, Nov. 26th until Sunday, Dec. 17th. They always do such a terrific job in delivering the cards. Remember to have your cards ready between the dates mentioned above.

The deadline for the West Virginia Christmas Program is next Sunday (Nov. 26th). There are four different options available. Food box, shoe box list, adult cold kits and bed clothes. Please bring the boxes or items to fill boxes to the fellowship hall. Remember: no clothes this time, at the request of the churches, we will NOT be including the $5.00 love gift. If you are helping with the cold kits, please remember to place items in a large freezer bag. No money in boxes and remember to label each box with age and gender for the shoe boxes. This is always a wonderful form of giving for our church. We have been greatly blessed and that blessing needs to be shared with others!

Also, the deadline for accepting orders for Poinsettias to be placed in honor or memory of is next Sunday (Nov. 26th). The cost is $12.00 per flower. Remember to write down who is placing the flower and the name(s) of the person(s) the flower is being placed in memory or in honor of.

XYZ will be having a get-together Dec. 12th. There is a sign up sheet in the vestibule of the church. Remember to sign up soon so reversations can be made accordingly!

The Children's Choir will be performing their annual Christmas program. It will be held on Sunday evening, Dec. 10th. We always have a tremendous response to the program and invite everyone to attend. The service begins at 6pm.

The Adult Choir will be performing our Christmas cantata Sunday, Dec. 17th during the evening worship hour. Everyone is encourage to attend this event as well.

I think that covers about all I have for now. Many thanks to our former Youth and Children's leader as well. She has done a terrific job with the youth and children. It's not an easy task, I am sure! With her busy schedule with being a full-time Kindergarten teacher as well as studying for her Master's Degree, she has had to relinquish the position of Youth and Children's leader. We appreciate and applaud her for a job well done! May God continue to bless her exceedinly and abundantly!

It's hard to believe that November will soon be over. Thanksgiving is next week and then preparations for Christmas will begin. I have noticed on my way to and from work, some folks have already started putting up Christmas decorations. I am beginning to feel the itch myself. I love the decorations and how warm and inviting they make everything. As we all know, it is very important to remember the reason for the season and not let it get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

I wanted to remind you of some things that will be taking place in the next few days. Men's breakfast will be tomorrow morning at 8am in the fellowship hall. If you haven't already made plans to attend, you are encouraged to join in a great time of food, fellowship and rejoicing with fellow brothers-in-Christ.

Community Thanksgiving dinner and service will be next Wednesday, Nov. 22nd. Come out and bring a friend!

Don't forget about choir practice Sunday evenings at 7pm. We would love to have anyone who has thought about joining the choir to come and join us. We have started working on the Christmas cantata. Hope to see you there!

Exercise Your Right

Tomorrow is election day. If you are a registered voter, please make sure you take the time to vote. We have some pretty big items on the docket this year and we need to vote wisely. One thing I do wish when it comes to politics, is that the candidates would spend less time bashing each other and more time talking about what they intend to do when they are elected to serve. I have grown very tired of listening to each of them speak lowly of the other, and it is not appealing. In my opinion, when they make a promise of accomplishing something while in office, please follow through with that promise. I am fully aware that in politics there will always be a certain amount of "mudslinging", but enough is enough.

To be perfectly honest, and I am sure that most would agree, until God is put back in His rightful place in this country, we can continue to expect these types of behaviors. In short, voting is one way we can make our voices be heard. I encourage everyone is a registered voter to vote. If we don't vote, then we have no right to complain about what a poor job so and so did, etc.

Anyway, that's enough of that. Remember to vote tomorrow, Nov. 6th! Remember to take your voter's registration card with you. If aren't registered to vote yet, please take the time to become a registered voter.

Nothing Like Home!

"There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home." A famous quote from a very famous movie. Loved by big kids and small. And a statement that rang very true today for many. We had an incredible turn-out today for homecoming. It was a delight to see those familiar faces. It was also wonderful to see our former pastor and his family as well. Homecoming has always been one of my favorite events at church. And before I forget, hats off to those that helped decorate the fellowship in preparation for today. It was absolutely beautiful! Many thanks to those that lended a hand, from those that serve on the fellowship committee, to those that helped out just to be helping (especially those young men who helped so willingly). It is very appreciated!! Did I mention how wonderful the food was??!! Scrumptous. The desserts were delightful!!

The XYZ will have their Thanksgiving banquet this Friday night, Nov. 10th at 6:30pm in the fellowship hall. A meal will be provided. The Dixie Dewdrops will be performing as well. Come join in a wonderful time of food and fellowship.

Don't forget to bring your donations for the West Virginia Christmas Program along with your donations for school supplies (to help local schools) and canned goods (to assist those in need in our community).

If you are part of the Instrumental Group, please remember to meet in the sanctuary next Sunday morning (Nov. 12th) at 9am. We look forward to hearing the beautiful music you play!

Now is the time for you to join the Adult Choir. We have started rehearsing the Christmas cantata. Even if you only participate for the Christmas season, it will give you the opportunity to see if this is something you wish to continue. Join us. We'd love to see you there!
